Must haves for post op?

Recommended Posts

Surely someone has asked this before but I can't find anything. I don't want to go crazy buying a bunch of stuff I don't need and won't use but I want to be prepared with the things I deff WILL need post-op. Can you all help a girl out by posting what is was you felt you couldn't have lived without post-op?

What I already have:

Small bowls

salad plate (small)

Water bottle

shake mixer

Microwave bacon cooker (thinking ahead lol)

Freezer bowls for storing leftovers so I don't constantly have to cook (thinking ahead again lol... no broth freezing will be done lol)

medic alert Bracelet

what I know I still need to get:

PPI (like prilosec)

liquid or chewable vits (gonna ask my office which they recommend b4 I buy)

Gas X

Kinda trying to go with a less is more attitude but want to make sure I have what I'll NEED. Any advice appreciated :)

sugar free pop sicles sugar free Jello chicken broth some sort of Fiber supplement maybe some Water flavor packets

My surgery is on a Monday and I am planning on going back to work the next Monday' date=' a week later. Is this unrealistic? I have a desk job, I do accounts payable for a hospital so I am sitting most of the day, some walking within the office to send an occasional fax or get something off the printer, etc. My coworkers and supervisor don't know I'm doing this. I am telling them I have to have my gallbladder out. I figured that would explain the incisions and the belly pain. ?? Any thoughts on this?[/quote']

I was told the sooner I start walking and doing normal activities the sooner ill start feeling better and the faster the pain went away. As soon as I got back to my room after surgery and they asked me to get up and try going to the restroom I made sure I got up and stood for a couple of minutes. I also made sure I walked the hall ways in the hospital. My doc released me the next day and told me to make sure I kept up with liquids and kept up with walking. I didnt need to much of my pain meds.

Really it depends on you...it's definitely possible. You'll still be achy, but the more you move, the faster that resolves. I went back at 9 days (3 days 1/2 time then at 2 weeks I was full time again). I was WORN OUT those first 2 weeks of working though. I did use my heating pad on my tummy a few times during the day at work just to ease the ache a bit and took Tylenol regularly that first week. Make sure you've got drinks, shakes and whatever you need for food with you. It's not going to be easy, but if your surgeon is okay with it, it's definitely possible, just not much fun. Be careful, and obey your restrictions!!!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
