So I had a crazy headache at work yesterday. So I took an asprin....

WORST IDEA EVER!!

I took half of the pill and I think it reacted with something in my stomach and I about 5 minutes later I had to vomit horrifically. And it tasted lile the outer coating of pills. I felt aweful and gross...never taking it again.

You answered my question!! I was just going to post if anyone knows if I take aspirin type meds for headaches would it mess w my stomach after surgery. I had the worst one sides headache yesterday and I usually take excedrin migrane for it..and it got me thinking after surgery could i still take it? what is allowed?

Only thing we are supposed to take over the counter is Tylenol. NSAIDs are bad for our pouches. Hope you feel better.

I has been over 5 months since I last took any sort of pain med and didn't think abo ut it till it was too late.

Tylenol is your best friend. I took Tylenol go rant headache or sickness I had.... Always helps. ... One time I took ibuprofen and my stomach hurt horribly for a few weeks. Stick with Tylenol.

Took two extra strength Tylenol yesterday and didn't have a problem. But have always used Tylenol even before surgery as I knew asprin could cause ulcers, so tried to avoid them except for the 81gm baby asprin, but haven't been taking that since before surgery. That one is for my heart, to help keep the blood thin.

Voltaren may be on the list, but Voltaren GEL is a topical NSAID which does not affect the stomach. According to my doctors, the gel is safe to use post op. I use it daily without problems.

Where have you found the gel? I can't stand the liquid Tylenol and pills always seem to get stuck.

I swear yesterday, I heard a TV ad saying something like "If you are a love had died or gotten diagnosed with liver disease please called this number". The FDA has a system in place to check for recalls and drug related illnesses and diseases. Not mean to scare you any further but it is a great resource.

voltaren is used for treating local joint pains, not for the headaches though. You can get it OTC in most pharmacies. It is also named diclofenac, I think.

To the best of my knowledge, Voltaren gel is available by prescription only. Mine was prescribed by a pain management specialist. The generic is diclofenac sodium.

I need to have both shoulders replaced due to severe arthritis, but I can't think or work while taking Vicodin, but using Voltaren gel gets me through most days until I can have my first shoulder replacement in late October.
