I was banded in Tijuana at the Bajanor Hospital. I started out weighing 249 pounds, with a 34.9 BMI, and qualified due to family history, a long history of failed weight loss, and a current pre-diabetic diagnosis (PCOS and hyperinsulin response). I am currently at 234 pounds and holding there for the past week. It is the same weight I get "stopped" at without the band. Of course, I am waiting to get through that barrier and I have yet to get a fill, but I will. I still have questions and concerns. I guess I didn't know enough to ask the right questions when I had opportunity -- a person can only know what they know at the point they know it. For now, this is my introduction. I will continue to follow the regimen for eating and address the questions on my first fill the end of March and search these forums for similar questions. Wishing the Best for Everyone,

Becky

Hello Metal Tigress,

I too was banded in Tijauna by Dr. Haucuz and was thrilled with him. I'm 54 and, like so many, have struggled with my weight since I was 10 or 11 years old. Enough is enough!

You'll get over this hump. I haven't had a fill yet but have one scheduled at my 6 week mark!

I was banded on 2-9-07 by Dr. Ortiz in Mexico and it was great. I have tried not to weigh myself on a daily basis. I want to feel the results in my clothes first. I think the weight loss will speed up once we start eating 3 real meals a day and exercise. Our bodies have been adjusting to the band and to our post op diet. I think my body went into survival mode when I started the post op diet. I am down 10 pounds so I feel great about that. I still have a few days left on the post op diet and then I get to eat real food and start exercising more.

Good luck!

Hello Metal Tigress,

Today is both of our 1 month bandiversary!!! How do you feel so far and how much weight have you lost? I am feeling great except that I really need that first fil. I have lost 17 pounds to date. I was hoping for more but lately I have been able to eat more than I should. I have been really using will power and hope to continue loosing but I really need that fill. My fill appointment isn't until April 14th so I'll just have to be strong!!

How are you doing????

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
