Good workout routine for weightloss?

Recommended Posts

Question for all you going to the gym.

I started going to the gym now, and want to know about a good workout routine. Any tips you have please?

I only started out about 3 weeks ago, so I am still quite unfit.

When do you do what? I want to incorporate weight training as well as I've read it's actually also good for weight loss, not just the cardio.

What does a good exercise plan look like?

I only want to go 3 to 4 times a week.

Please specify type of exercise and amount time and what when you are doing?

I was thinking perhaps:

Monday:

Cardio - 20 mins

Weights - back and biceps

Wednesday:

Cardio - 20 mins

Weights - triceps, shoulders and chest

Thursday:

Cardio: 40 minutes

Weights - legs

Please give me tips if this is a good or bad idea. This is nee territory for me so all advice welcome, please! If you dont agree with this plan please tell me, i am a novice! Also tell me why it is not good and then advice on what is please!

You have to schedule gym time like it is a job. Otherwise it is easy to find excuses to skip. 20 min. of cardio to start is good, but needs to be increased eventually to at least 40 min. preferably more. Once you start getting in shape you will want to do more weight reps and cardio. Seems like the first thing to go are the saddle bags on the hips.

If you are going to a gym, you may want to speak to a trainer who would set you on the right track of what to do and for how long. For me... I love to run and constantly challenge myself to meet new goals. My next new goal is to run a 9 minute mile.

Good luck with Zumba. It is an excellent calorie burner and toner. I started Zumba in February. I was the biggest girl in class. The ladies were very welcoming and encouraging, which is probably why I stuck with it. Now I am able to keep up with the class. I always look forward to my next class.

Love zumba too! I'm signing up for the next class at my rec center.

Obesta...I would increase your cardo to 30 minutes of whatever kind of cardo u like. Over the next few weeks I would try to increase the amount of time or intensity. I'm not much for knowing about weight training, but I was told not to do it everyday as your muscles need time to recoup. However that might be different since you are working on different areas. Just as someone else mentioned, it probably would be a good idea to talk to a trainer. The should be able to give u a starting plan that u can build from. Good luck!

Start weight 224, Surgery weight 205, Current weight 199

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
