hair176 7 Posted January 19, 2014 I quit smoking 7 years ago after my 52 year old sister had a heart attack. I had been smoking for 40 years up to 2 packs a day. I tried everything but nothing worked and then my doctor suggested Chantix. It really did work!! I had no side effects and I was able to go off of the drug after 2 months. You really must WANT to quit or else nothing will work. I am so happy to be a non-smoker and now after WLS I have never felt better. Good Luck to you! Ana Gram 13 Posted January 19, 2014 I had good luck quitting with Chantix as well, just over 6 years ago now. I have been thinking about the e-cigs as a possibility if I feel I need something for stress post-surgery. One of the other things I found helpful to quit smoking was quitnet.com especially the little congratulatory emails they sent when you reached milestones like 1 week quit, 1 month quit etc. I'd like to have something like that for my weight loss efforts, there probably is and I just haven't run across it yet. R@VEN 27 Posted January 22, 2014 As of today I'm 3 weeks post op. Also 3 weeks of non smoking. I smoked up to the night before. After surgery I was coughing up black. I made a promise not to smoke. I tell myself I did WLS to better my health but if I continue to smoke it seems useless. The second week the cravings were the worse. Three weeks now, they are much better but still a battle. Congrats to all who have stopped smoking and those who are trying. We got this!!!! My Love to all. 1 deaddemmama reacted to this
BrandNewBrandy 79 Posted January 22, 2014 I quit (and my husband) by reading a book called Stop Smoking the Easy Way by Allen Carr a year ago. It was my easiest quit including chantix. If you look for the book you can even download it in pdf for free on the net. 1 ElyQuint reacted to this

deaddemmama 474 Posted January 25, 2014 I had horrible side effects with Chantix, but most don't. I quit, but my niece died suddenly two weeks ago, and I starred again...back to the drawing board.
