Gurgling and foamies - for no apparent reason?

Recommended Posts

I don't get it. I had cottage cheese around 6pm. Four hours later I'm sitting on the couch and very suddenly feel the foamies starting. I'm gurgling, burping, and feeling that very uncomfortable feeling you get - and it was totally out of the blue! No food, no drink, no nothing - just sitting there. I threw up about twenty minutes ago and it was just foam. It didn't make it better, I'm still all gurgly. I don't dare lay down but it's bet time and I'm tired! I'm at a loss. I have no idea why this happened.

Anyone else have this happen? Anyone know why?

(Feeling uncomfortable, tired, and confused)

Tried going to bed but it got worse when I lay down. Threw up one more time, then it eased up enough to go to sleep (but not completely). This morning I'm fine so far.

I just want to know what causes it so I can avoid it in the future. Usually when it happens I know why - food too dry, ate too fast, didn't chew enough - but this was totally out of the blue.

Foam irks are typically a sign of irritation. Your body is producing mucus to lubricate and help something pass through. I haven't had them with my bypass but used to get them all the time with my band. If I had a bite that was too big or didn't chew well, ate too much, or ate something that globbed up and wouldn't pass. I can't imagine why cottage cheese wild be a problem, particularly 4 hours later. Did you eat anything else with it that could have obstructed? Feel well soon!

I ate nothing else. All I can think of is I was in a semi-reclining position - maybe some stomach Fluid backed up on me? Surely four hours later cottage cheese would have passed out of my stomach, being a soft semi-liquid sort of food? It's a mystery...

I have a 4mos post-op appointment tomorrow. I'll be asking about it then.

Same issue here so I called my doctor. They said mucus is being created by your pouch as it heals. The mucus fills much of the pouch which causes nausea and even vomiting. As we heal the mucus will decrease. They suggested drinking a hot beverage 30 minutes before your meal to thin out the mucus and relax the pouch. Drinking it in the morning may help also.

Thanks! I'll give it a try. It's frustrating when you think you've got it all figured out and things were going along just fine, and then your body starts doing something totally unexpected.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
