What's supposed to happen to the exterior stitches?

Recommended Posts

Do they dissolve, fall out, stay there, or what?

The stitches are supposed to be taken out each surgeon is different about when they come out. At my hospital I take the staples out on the day of discharge. Have you gone for your 1 week post OP yet

My surgeon uses super glue... It just eventually withers away after a few weeks. I'm 2 weeks out and it is about half gone.

I had staples and one stitch which were all removed 1 week post-op.

I just have steri strips and some internal stitches that will dissolve. I am almost 2 weeks post op and am supposed to remove the strips at 2 weeks. I think each surgeon uses what works best for them as well as what each patients needs.

I have stitches and the glue. Just had my one wk post op appointment and now I've noticed two stitches coming out about half an inch. Of course the surgeon's office isn't open again till Monday

I only had glue on my incisions. Awesome stuff! I hate stitches - they itch and catch on clothing. The only stitches I had were internal stitches that dissolve.

I had glue and dissolving stitches so nothing needed to be done for me.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
