Blood Work Question

Recommended Posts

I'm three months out and I have not had blood work done yet. My surgeon doesn't do it for quite a while still. I think she said 6 mos. or 9 mos. I'm not comfortable waiting that long, but my regular doctor said I needed to go through my surgeon. What is generally recommended? I'm off all my pre-op meds and I want to make sure things are okay. I also want to make sure Vitamin levels are good. I know my blood pressure is good and I did a finger prick test for blood sugar, which was also good. I was never technically diabetic. My levels were just creeping up. Thoughts and advice?

My surgeon did blood work at 1 month post op and 3 months post op. Basically I have blood work at each post op. I go for my 6 month post op in November.

I am almost 4 months out and have not had lab work done.

I recently switched surgeons due to moving states and I am getting my first lab work this week.

If you need reassurance that all is going well with your WLS, than call them and demand lab work done. You are paying them to keep you healthy and updated on your progress. It's your prerogative.

I'll be a year post op next month. My Dr did a full blood panel at 6 months and will do it again at a year.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
