I am a smoker. Not good, I know. However, I honestly don't think I can even cut down on smoking before my surgery in November 2013. Has anyone ever walked a mile in my shoes? If so, how did you make out? Thank you.

Honestly, after surgery, I was in so much pain and trying to concentrate on staying hydrated and nourished that I had no desire to smoke. And I was the type that never wanted to quit because I really enjoyed it. I've been smoke free since 1/28/13 and me & my body really appreciate it.

My surgeon made me sign a contract to quit smoking 2 weeks before surgery. I signed it but I knew I would not quit before surgery, I loved to smoke too !!! My last smoke was like at 10pm the night before surgery. My surgery was 7 am so I had to be at the hospital at 5 am so I just got up, showered and went to the hospital. I have been smoke free for 17 months and feel 1000000% better, plus I don't stink anymore !!!

I've never smoked but I ate. So here is my question, smoking is an addiction, food is some sort of addiction, if you feel you can't quit or really don't want to quit this smoking addiction, how confident are you that you can lose the weight you have gained from your food addiction? And of course, if you go back to your smoking addiction then you are putting yourself back into more health issues with your bypass, not counting the ones you have already done to the arteries in your body. This is just a thought, as this is really hard for me to wrap my head around.

I struggled with smoking quit for months before my surgery then about five months out picked one up at a party and have been struggling ever since. Matter of fact I go to my doc today to talk about chantix I want to have a baby and know must quit for good this time. Can't believe I ever started again. Must replace the stress with something else best of luck

I have been smoker for close to 20 years and quit cold turkey week before surgery. First week was a bit$&, but it is doable, you can do it. As soon as I was 5 days smoke free I thought it would be stupid to go back now...

Yep your best is all any of us can do. Sometime I feel like one thing at a time i lost the weight now I wi quit smoking. I am not perfect I will make mistakes and I will make bad choices we all do. But there is one thing I know and that is I love my self more for allowing myself to make mistakes. You can do this but in your own time when it is right for you. Smoking is so hard just like losing weight. We did not drop 100 pounds in a day and we will not drop smoking that easy eather :) good luck you got this !!

Just be aware...I started smoking again after three months post op.....just sneaking a few hear and there. I'm now in the hospital with a bleeding ulcer; it took 1 1/2 months to develop. While most non gastric bypass patients develop ulcers due to H pylori, it seems that we rny patients can and DO develop ulcers due to irritants like smoking as well as due to variants like H pylori. Please try your hardest to stop, and message me if you'd like a " quit" buddy! I'd love to have help quitting with someone!

I quit in July I knew that I would be having surgery in September. I am a nervous Nelly and keep thinking if I didn't stop smoking somehow I would do poorly in surgery or unable to wean off oxygen so I just quit cold turkey I finished out my pack and never bought anymore. a few times I smoked on a e cigarette and e hookah but once I stopped smoking after a few weeks I didn't even want that my hardest thing has been by far giving up my addiction to food!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
