In my case, I was in the hospital for only 24 hours since I had no complications.

I was given a pain pump. I hit that button as needed. Home I went with liquid Lortab (liquid heaven) and was given 3 refills. Again, I took it as needed. I was in a lot of pain and first thing I told myself was: screw pain, I'm no martyr to deal with it. I needed all the rest I could get after such major invasive surgery.

Surgery was on Monday, I came home on Wednesday. I had the pain pump for first 24 hours and then was switched to oral meds. I had a liquid percoset when I came home which I took regularly! I agree with ArmyOfMe in that I was gonna take it as much as I could cuz I just had major surgery!

Went into the hospital on Wednesday and came home Friday. Had the pain pump for about 24 hours then was put on oxy codone oral med and also got sent home with a prescription for it. In the hospital I just slept, watched tv, and played on my phone.

Surgery on Monday, discharge on Wednesday. IV dilaudid for the first 24 hrs, then to lortab elixir. Walked the evening of my surgery. The 2nd day I sat up in the chair on and off most of day. Took walks around the floor several times a day. It helps to move the gas through and gets the anesthesia out of your system. Most important thing is to keep moving. Don't lie in bed all day. It will slow your recovery. I took the Lortab elixir for about a week. Best of luck.

I was so bored!!!! I was the first surgery Monday morning and didn't get to leave until 7:00 Thursday night. I don't watch TV much and with the pain meds I really couldn't read (too drowsy). I walked a lot, to the point they stopped marking my laps on the board in my room and did a lot of Facebook time and RNY talk time :P

Surgery Wednesday @ 10 AM in my room by 12:30, slept off and on, used my pain med pump starting at about 6 PM and two to three hours thereafter. Nurses checking, BP & BS every two hours, which was okay as that was as long as I slept. 8:00 PM got up walked the hall and than sit in a chair for about a 1/2 hour. Ended up having to have Zolfran twice. Was allowed ice chips, which I sucked on off and on, finally they just gave me a full cup. I wasn't very dry or thirsty, so basically allowed me to have what I wanted. Continued to have BP checked, as have issues with the heart, plus BS. Had a blood draw to check everything to make sure I wasn't lacking. Potassium was high, sodium low but still within the normal range. Up next morning sitting on edge of bed @ 8:00 AM, doctor and PA came in surprised I was up and getting to go for a walk. So they released me. Had two chicken broths, and three sf popsicles before I left. Sent me home with pain med which I could take 4-6 hours, I took every six, now I take it every 12 or PRN. Everyday gets better, but wish I could get in more food like Cream of Wheat, Soup. Just lucky I'm getting in almost 64 oz of Fluid but only about 40 gms of Protein though and that I don't like. Got to try harder.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
