Haven't heard from many July post-op patients. I had surgery July 29th. No complications at all. No food that doesn't agree, but my diet is the strictest I've heard of. 2 weeks Clear liquids, 2 weeks full liquids, 4 weeks puréed, and 4 weeks soft. I'm down 54 pounds in about 6 weeks. I've lost 120lb since December when I started the program.

I probably would have lost more than the 40 lbs in 8 weeks if I had been on a strict diet but they had me on pureed foods in the hospital and after I got home for 2 weeks, then soft foods for 4 weeks, and now I can eat whatever my little pouch can handle.

I see different doctors/hospitals have different approaches to bariatric surgery.

My hospital is a level 1A certified bariatric facility which means they follow the surgical boards guidelines to the "T"

My diet is similar although not as long. Clear liquids first week 2 weeks full liquids, 2 weeks puréed, 2 weeks soft - no seeds or veggies with skins for 3 months and no steak or tough meat for 6 months. I have not had any problems with foods but I sure miss tomatoes!

Where are all of the July post ops? We seem to be a quiet bunch. I'm doing well. I'm down 56 pounds since the start of this journey and my pouch seems to be ok with just about everything I eat. I need to increase exercise though. I'm having trouble with my ankle and knees so it makes it a challenge. How is everyone else doing?

I was also thinking that I don't see any July post-ops on the forum. I had surgery at the end of July, on the 31st, so I've been checking out the August post-op board as well. I had complications following surgery that kept me in and out of the hospital over the course of 5 weeks. I still have trouble getting enough Water, Protein, etc. but I am doing so much better than before. I am down 51lbs since surgery almost 8 weeks ago. I lost most of that between weeks 2-6 and have only lost a few pounds in the last couple of weeks. Some are suggesting that I need to eat more, which I find likely since I'm hardly eating. What are everyone's favorite foods now?

I'm a July post op. Surgery was 7/23/13. I can tolerate most foods as long as I eat very slow. Any suggestions for the weight coming off slow. PW 261 Cw 216

I had surgery on July 9th and did fine. I can eat pretty much anything but there are things I don't eat yet - bread, Pasta, rice ad I'm slowly introducing fruits. I focus on Protein then veggies then carbs (if any). I lost about 60 pounds so far. I have noticed that the more calories I eat the better I'm losing. I exercise four days a week - an hour class of Zumba but I was exercising a year and a half before surgery so that is the easy part! I found this to be pretty easy so far. I eat on schedule not because I'm hungry and I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything. My portions are under 5 oz. total - 2-3 oz being the protein. And I track everything I eat!!

My surgery was July 23 as well. I'm only down 37 pounds since surgery but 57 since the start of the journey. I have not had any problems with food but I seem to be able to eat more then I did before. It's making me nervous. I'm slow too but know I need to start exercising. I'm having trouble with my ankle which is keeping me from doing much.

I had my surgery on the 24th and I have been feeling pretty good. But my taste buds are not the same, I can't tolerate real sweet tasting things like crystal light and the Protein Shakes. I am going to try the unflavored stuff, I hope that goes down easier. My Dr had me do one week liquids, one week pureed, and one week soft foods. No beef, raw vegetables too hard on the pouch, he also said no white starches. So far so good.....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
