I was 484 and my surgeon wants me under 450. So I had to loose34 pounds before he would see me for my second appointment. Every doctor is different. Mine just said he didn't feel comfortable doing the surgery with me over 450.

My Dr doesn't require any weight loss before surgery. But there is a pre op diet I have to do.

It depends on your insurance requirements. For my insurance I didn't have to lose any weight.

Our nutritionist kept saying that we needed to loose 10% of our starting weight. But my surgeon wasn't as hard set on an amount. I started this journey about 3 months back and have gone from 240 to 218 so far, and my surgery date is the 25th of September. So i have 2 more to go.

Although my surgeon didnt give me a set amount to lose...I just felt the more weight I lost the easier and smoother my surgery would go. And good thing I did lose 20lbs, on my surgery day my surgeon came in..looked and felt on my belly and said "oh this is going to be easy, you have a small belly" lmao I was thinking..geese! Me? A small belly?! Lol thought it was funny.. that was the first lol

I'm attending my first consultation next week which consists of a two hour nutrition class.... Is there a certain time limit they give you to lose the weight? That seems stressful .... By the way, I'm new here, how do I start a new thread? I'm signed in but still can't figure it out

Thanks!

No I didn't have a time limit to loose the 34pounds. He just said come back when you get it off. I guess that's how he also weeds out people who aren't serious about the surgery. He sees a lot of people and gives them a few guide lines to follow and if yo can do it you just never come back.

Are you on a desk top or on the app? On the desk top I go to forums and just pick a topic then start a new topic. I think from the app you have to go online through it and kind of do the same thing. I have an iPad and I just go through the app to get online. I actually use the first message I got from the administrator and click the edit profile link and go to forum from there.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
