I am on my way to my new life and I'm scared. I know this is best for me but now it seems real. The past couple of months have seemed like a challenge to get some where. Now I am almost there, and I'm feeling very scared. Does this happen to everyone? I argue with myself because I don't want to continue like I am and need this to make myself better. But I still have this fear. A couple weeks ago I was doing good trying to watch what I eat, excerise, and keep a food log. But the past week it seems like I want to eat everything in sight! Is this normal?

Been a year ago yesterday that I had the surgery. Not every day was a piece of cake. But 80 lbs lost. I run a 5K EVERY month. I've lost 10 dress sizes. Knowing I can go to a Birthday Party and not gain back every pound, it took a week to lose. The Band isn't a magical fix all. You still have to watch every bite you take. You still have to exercise EVERY day. It still comes down to less calories, more exercise. The band just keeps me from old habits. It helps to keep me honest. I LOVE my band. I'll have to post some before and after pictures. Learn to be honest with yourself. If you've never been on a diet. If you never had to lose the same 5 lbs over and over, While watching your weight continue to go up. Then you probably don't need the surgery. But you haven't came this far because you have your weight under control. Don't be standing in front of your bathroom mirror a year from now, wondering if you should have the surgery. Be standing in a bikini, thinking, "Darn, I look and feel great". Good Luck. Be brave. Do this for you :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
