First step to a new surgeon!

Recommended Posts

After talking with more people I decided not to go with my previous surgeon because of their mandatory purchase of 4 weeks of food for $4000.

So after researching more i found another surgeon who is closer to me And has good reviews. Tonight I went to his offices seminar and should receive a call about scheduling my consultation in a few days.

I spoke with one of his offices staff and she said all my previous requirements should transfer over fine but they might have to resubmit my surgery request if I was approved only for surgery with my previous doc.

Wish me luck I hope I can move through this quickly and get a surgery date!

Congrats on finding a new doc. I interviewed two docs before going forward. This doctor will be a part of your new life for the rest of your life. You must make sure it is the right doc for you.

WOW.. I am glad you found another surgeon, that was crazy that a surgeon had "MANDATORY" purchase of food !!!! what a rip-off !!!

This is the first time in over two years of doing this stuff that I have ever heard of a surgeon with any kind of mandatory food purchase, much less $4000 worth. The only thing my surgeon has ever had in her office is a Protein Shake. And they don't sell it, the shake is from Costco! Definitely sounds to me like you made a very good decision. You're gonna love the new you!!

Good for you! That $4000 requirement is ludicrous. I am surprised that surgeon is still in business.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
