Still no solids, am I alone?

Recommended Posts

Here I am 4 weeks post op and I'm still not tolerating solids. Every couple of days I try a little something but either I get the foamies or I sit with a trash can because I feel like I won't hold it down.

So bummed.

Don't get discouraged! I know exactly how you feel. I was the same way at that time- called my dr and he told me to double up on my antacid Meds- I did and in a few days felt completely better and could hold food down. I say the first 6-7 wks are really hard no matter what. I'm 7 wks and can actually eat and drink without discomfort now. You might want to look into the antacid.

OMG I had foamies when I first had surgery, they lasted for about 5-6 months then finally went away. I "think" I got my foamies from not chewing enough. I would know the second it went down that I would be sick with the foamies. It was so uncomfortable and they would last anywhere from 1 hour to once I had constant foamies for like 12 hours straight. It knocked the heck out of me !!!!

Thanks y'all, so maybe wait a couple more weeks and try solids again?

I'll just stock up on more Soups and those heavenly sf tropical Popsicles. :D

Random question, has anyone had avocados?

Around 3 weeks out I realized I couldn't do solids either- not even puréed things. I could only do liquids- my issue turned out to be a stricture though.

I am 4 weeks out and tried avocados the other day. They went down really well. I mashed them to a pulp and added guacamole seasoning to it.

My saving grace at that time was gem squash! The best food i ever had. Boil them up and mash with a little dash of butter and salt and pepper. Please try it, i started crying the first time i had it. Was SO sick of liquids and so emotional. It was warm and comforting.

Guys, this might be a culture/language difference, but what does foamies mean? We dont have this term in my country. Does your mouth foam? Sorry for seeming silly!

For me it starts after I eat something that my pouch doesn't like. It starts as almost a fizzy gassy feeling that grows increasingly stronger and more unpleasant.

My nutritionist explained it like this: If you eat something too dry, eat too fast, or don't chew properly the food can back up to the entrance of the pouch or even into the esophagus. Your body starts to produce bubbly saliva in response. The foamy stuff can build up until you feel it in the back of your throat. Have you ever eaten the candy called "Pop Rocks"? The bubbling is almost like that feeling but way worse.

Usually when I vomit, it is just foamy saliva, not food. Only on a couple occasions have I actually vomited actual food.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
