November surgeries?

Recommended Posts

 I am new to the site. I am scheduled Nov 5th. The hospital is 1 hr 40 mins away and my arrival time is 5:30 so I am checking into a hotel 2 weeks from today in order to settle in and start my bowel prep. I am really getting excited now after attending a pre op class and tour. I go in one week for my pre op visit with the surgeon' date=' meet anesthesia, and meet with nutritionist again. I can't believe I am only 2 weeks away....[/quote']

Me too. Started my pre-op diet Monday. Surgery Nov. 4th

Why? Are you okay?

That stinks. Is everything OK? Did you have to cancel it or did the surgeon?

Had to postpone for two reasons:

1: Boss said two weeks off starting the 8th was not going to work and asked that I hold off until first week of December.

(I wish my boss was a little more supportive of my decision. When I told him, he said I didn't need it, that I just needed to quit drinking soda. His reaction hurt a lot, because I really respect my boss and work my *ss of for him. I was so crushed by his attitude. I know our dynamic is changed for ever. And he has been like a dad to me this last year.)

2: When I went to reschedule, the surgeon's office said Doc wants to talk to me first. I guess he wants me to quit smoking before my surgery or he won't do it.

After I talk to doc, I'll let you know. Just super bummed.

My surgeon won't do surgery on anyone that smokes. What kind of work do you do? Do you have any sick leave? I'm using accrued sick leave and I sure didn't ask my boss if it was okay...that's my personal decision.

That really stinks that your boss isn't supportive. What he said to you was very rude and classless. If he tries to tell you to put it off again I would tell him to pound salt. Your health is important and if your boss can't see that then he is a very selfish man.

I knew he was going to be like that too bc this other person at work just got the surgery and he has been talking trash about him. My boss is pretty heavy himself so I would think he would understand, but not so.

In support they told us about people like that. He is jealous. Your health comes first, but you need to quit smoking. That can cause complications after surgery and you don't want that. Talk to your Dr.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
