It might sound like whining but I can't seem to get an appointment with the surgeon. I went to the informational seminar, finished 8 months of supervised diet, only 6 were required, EGD, pulmanoligist, cardio clearance, blood work, letter if referral from my doctor and I only have the psych eval left to do later this month... They said to send 4 months of supervised diet records and I'd get my appointment with the surgeon. Well the nurse sent all of the records 2-1/2 weeks ago. I e-mailed them and they said they never received the records so she sent them again both times getting a report that they had been received.

I've e-mailed them 3 times in the last week and called twice only getting voice mail.

I Can't get any response from these people.

Has anyone else had this kind of problem?

Any suggestions?

Has anyone else used Turning Point Bariatric center out of Topeka Kansas???

With all of that being said.... I would run...run very fast. If you can't get a call back I wonder what it would be like if you had a emergency !!! I'm old school...first impressions mean everything to me !!!! Go find another doctor !!

I've been thinking the same thing. Also being 3 hours away was a concern but I've also heard others on here being that far or even farther away than 3 hours. My PCP had never referred anyone for WLS. I'm his first so I kinda feel like his Guinea pig. Lol. I've scheduled all my own appointments and the specialists just send him the reports. Every month he goes over everything asking lots of questions and now he has a patient he is talking to about WLS. So maybe I'm the pioneer in this area... Lol

I interviewed two doctors before I decided which doc was the best one for me.

I agree with BD. RUN and run fast.

Can you go to Kansas City for your WLS. St. Luke's has a great program.

I've been doing some more research and more surgeons are now taking kancare than there was at the first of the year. I have lots of phone calls to make on Monday.

I did receive a call today from Topeka stating they have not yet received my medical records. They've been faxed twice but they say they still don't have them yet. I double checked the fax number and the one I have is correct so I'm going to scan them and email them and send a set of hard copies n c what happens. However I am checking out other options as well.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
