I had my gastric bypass on Aug 21st and am feeling awful. I can't get in all of the liquids, Protein, or vitamins! I am ALWAYS tired and am now wondering what did I do to myself? Has anyone else felt this way? Please help me.

Believe me, it gets better...concentrate on liquids to avoid dehydration....once you get more food in you, you'll feel better. Hang in there!

Thank you, I really needed to hear that because right now diluted grapefruit juice is the only liquid I can tolerate. I don't know why. I'm just so miserable. I sit in my apartment and cry.

Get out of the house!!! Fresh air can fix lots of things!

Try to get your important things in like Vitamins. He'll some days I don't get in all my liquids! Try. It gets easier, promise. My Vitamins still stick sometimes but that's life. The new life I was give since my surgery. Sure some days are tough, but I wouldn't change anything.

Good luck. We are here to support each other.

Yes! But u had major surgery. You have to heal, you will get stronger, have more energy, drink more and on and on

I joke I was thirsty for the first couple months. I was a Water lover and could not drink enough to satisfy my thirst. It's so much better now. Hang in there! ;)

Yup, same exact boat. I've been sipping Ensure Clear to get my Vitamins in and it does boost my energy. I still can't tolerate solids and I'm 3weeks out, I tried again today and got the foamies again. I've been feeling decent the last couple of days and hubby thinks its the Ensure.

I remember like it was yesterday feeling just like you! I had regrets and when I came on here to vent everyone said the same thing....it will get better, I didn't see it then, but after getting over that small bump in the road...everyone was right. I am here to tell you, it will truly get better...get your liquids in, walk and just continue to heal...I wish u luck and in the days to come you will help someone fresh out of surgery letting them know it does get easier! Good luck on your new life! :)

Normal! I did get dehydrated. I felt lousy. I had no energy. Even taking taking a shower put me back at 0! But I must say after I went to urgent care and got IV I felt better not 100% but better I got 2 bags of IV and just got to lay there I walked out better.

Handle what you can and ask for help when you need to. It was major surgery.

I go back and forth between regret. I had surgery on Aug 6th. I am struggling as well. I knew it would be hard but it's harder than I thought. I feel like a failure because I struggle with Protein, Water or Vitamins on a given day. Yesterday got all my protein but was short on my water. My issue is I am not hungry so I have to force the food down to get my protein. The shakes are disgusting to me these days. Since surgery my sense of smell is even better than before so even unflavored protein smell horrible.

I still hate pretty much every Protein Drink out there and I am 6 months out. However, at this stage I have never felt better in my adult life. This surgery is a huge change, don't let anyone tell you it is the easy way out, but I am so grateful I had the courage to do it for myself.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
