Food for weeks 1-6

Recommended Posts

I'm a person who need variety and I have a feeling that if I do want to eat after surgery ill get bored eating the same things. Could you offer some advice on what your favorite things to eat were? So far I've bought: sugar free jello/pudding , several flavors of Protein including unflavored, applesauce pouches, and mashed potatoes. I'm trying to think of some soft foods/liquids that will be healthy! As of now I don't really want to live on Jello and pudding! Lol. Any input would help! And my surgery is September 16th!

I was like you before surgery- I went out and bought a lot of variety, but honestly I'm 6wks out and most if the food I bought is still in my pantry!! I think you'll find that after surgery your taste buds will change. I find applesauce and yogurt to be my go to food, and the taste hasn't gotten old yet!

Your taste buds change so much that I would wait until after surgery.

I am 4 weeks out and have to go back on mushy for a week. I am tired of the same old same old. I just got on with a friend of mine and he gave me some ideas. Lots of things involve eggs - so depends on what your doc says about that. Weeks 1-3 i was fine with the same few things over and over - it is just now that I want more. But chicken salad, tuna, crackers, babybel cheese, apple banana sauce - those are standbys. Plus of course my "Taco Bowls" with ff refried Beans, hamburger meat, laughing cow queso wedge, and a spoon of guac plus some taco sauce. Yummy.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
