Just curious how many people have tried alcohol soon after their surgery? I am nearly 4 weeks post op and just curious if anyone has tried alcohol this soon out? I haven't and my surgeon didn't really say much about it they just said that only drink occasionally (socially) and don't let it become a habit? Would it be bad to try a drink so soon after surgery? (Like tequila on the rocks? Or whiskey on the rocks?) if I took it slow and only had one? I'm going to a bday party tonite and just want to have a drink?... Plz no judgments just curious if it's a bad idea or not? Thanks

I would probably wait until I'm on real food if it were me. The one drink would have to be on the rocks but perhaps a little Water added to it and I would sip. In my pre surgery class the nurse said try to only have a shot. I do want to share that I've read a few places on here where people r saying try your first drink somewhere private and have one other person with you because it will affect you more. I know what you mean though because I've got a couple of people with birthdays coming in the end of September and beginning of October that I'm sure are going to be looking at me without a drink and raising questions because many have already started questioning. Granted none of them know about my surgery so I've been practicing sipping on Decaf tea in a glass. It'll pass for a drink????

Every movie I've watched appears to be centered around a glass of red wine. Which has been looking rather good☺so when I finally do have a drink I'm going for the red wine but I prefer the bitter verses the sweet. I would just ask my Dr. To be on the safe side. Let me know how it goes! Good luck!

I personally wouldn't do it this soon out from surgery. If I did, it would be wine. Not hard liquor. I'm 5 months out and I haven't risked it yet. Be careful. Supposedly it hits you hard and fast. Please make sure you have a ride home.

My dr told me not to make a habit out of it but a drink or two is ok, I'm staying here at my friends and I definitely would drink slow and little bit maybe a shot amount at most? Ill try this and there will be people here. Thanks.

I'm three months out and have tried both beer and wine. It didn't get me drunk at all, just very dehydrated.

You will feel the alcohol flow but depending on your body's reaction, you will either get plastered or just dehydrated.

Personally, at 4 weeks out, I would wait. At least, you have something to look forward to later on.

I have a question for Army. How did the beer go? I thought carbonated drinks were permanently off the menu.

Hi!

I had gb last october and was told to wait 3 months before I could have a drink.

So after 3 mnds I had 1/2 a glass of red wine,a small glass it was really just some sips, at home with my fiancee.

I did not feel much and thinking I was ok I stood up from the sofa.

I was drunk as a skunk!

I walked in to the kitchen wall and was escorted back to the sofa.

But it did not last long I got sober really fast to......

Try it out at home first, you dont know how you will react.

Im almost 1 year out now,and I drink a glass of wine if we are eating out or saturday at home,I dont get drunk or sick.

As long as you drink in moderation,it has a lot of calories too,I think it is ok.

Big hug to you all!

It felt a bit like a burning sensation going down. Tolerable if you only take small sips and occasionally. I took small sips out of my husband's bottle. Definitely, did not waste a whole bottle on myself.

My surgeon did not ban carbonated drinks. He said, it's okay to have carbonated drinks. I think he meant, only occasionally as a treat and as long as I don't fall back into the old bad habit. At least, that's how I interpreted it.

I had my first glass of wine about 3 months out. Now 6 months out I have a glass every few weeks. One and done is what I like to call it because I would be sick on the floor on more than one. One thing I didn't think about preop is that alcohol is pretty much all sugar so you don't just have the alcohol but the sugar too. One glass I am feeling good, two (I tried once) and not only am I drunk but sugar overload kicks in.

My surgeon said no carbonated drinks ever because it will stretch your pouch. There were six things my psych said I can never have ever after surgery. Lets see if I can remember them all. Carbonation, alcohol, caffeine, fried foods, sugary drinks? And I can't remember the last one. Ill have to look that up.

I've had em all except the sugary drinks! Glad my doc isn't as strict!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
