Mkmb2006 41 Posted December 27, 2013 Approved today!!! I should be happy I've been approved by my insurance company but family is starting to discourage me. I had a sleeve to bypass last minute change due to Barrett's which caused me enough anxiety. I have researched the new procedure but am not as comfortable as I was originally...I don't need to hear this continual s#*+ about reduction of life expectancy and all the statistical negatives a few days before surgery!!!! Depression creeping in..... ;( I'm sorry you're having a hard time. The approval made it so real for me, and I only got nervous at that point (my surg was a week ago). When our loved ones aren't supportive, it makes a life-changing decision even harder. Just remember you are doing this for you and no one else. They could be speaking out of worry or fear, or that you will change so much and alter the "you" they've always known. I've only told my husband and parents; my parents are supportive but concerned of course. But they're also the first to acknowledge that I've dieted for some 40 years and clearly unsuccessfully. Stay true to yourself and assure them that you didn't make this decision overnight. And we're all here to support you! 1 LeanMeanFightinMachine reacted to this
Greenize42 62 Posted December 27, 2013 Yes we are here to support you 100 percent but you still want that from friends and family! Is it more dangerous for you. Because of the barnet disease? 1 LeanMeanFightinMachine reacted to this
elizH 8 Posted December 27, 2013 My surgery date was 12/18. On a liquid diet for 2 weeks then 3 weeks of soft and puréed foods. Felt more human today because I had some Tomato soup! Feeling pretty good but still dealing with gas and irregularity, probably from the whey Protein Shakes. I am looking forward to being able to sleep on my side again. Over 30 lbs down since the 2 week pre-op Protein diet! 1 RDCLambert reacted to this
LillyRoad 15 Posted December 27, 2013 (edited) Anyone else having trouble getting their medications down? Ugh! I cannot get them to stay down. I've got to take Gabapentin( powder out of a capsule) Celaxa(crushed tablet) liquid potassium, chewable Vitamin and omeprazole( beads from a capsule. Once I get a taste, it's comes right back up. Help!!! Edited December 27, 2013 by LillyRoad
elleinfl 17 Posted December 27, 2013 I had an accordion drain in for about 6 weeks and it felt a little the same coming out. Towards the end of having it in I had more pain from the site healing around it than the drain itself. As nervous as I was once they clipped the stitches holding it I didn't feel any pain after... Just relief! best of luck on your recovery. Thanks. 1 kraney reacted to this
LeanMeanFightinMachine 38 Posted December 27, 2013 Yes we are here to support you 100 percent but you still want that from friends and family! Is it more dangerous for you. Because of the barnet disease? Thank you for the kind words. No, no more risk. The Barrett's esophagus is actually an added reason to have the RNY as it decreases the acid reflux, which in time resolves the Barrett's in most cases. RDCLambert 39 Posted December 27, 2013 I am really emotional too. Glad to know I'm not the only one. I found myself holding back tears all morning and not sure why. I feel bad because I don't want my family to think they are upsetting me. So this evening instead of watching them all eat Christmas dinner I came back to my house to try to get back to my routine. Maybe that will make me feel more like me again. I'm only 8 days post op but ready to get back to normal as possible. I am the 17th as well and literally just in the past 24-48 hours I've been like ok where is my life ? I'm bored and finally getting some energy back so today I cleaned house, did some dishes and even made my husband dinner. It felt good to move around and do something. Tomorrow organizing my daughter's play room is on the list because it looks like Christmas threw up in there haha. I also will have her back tomorrow..she has been at my mom's when my husband works..He works nights and I can't lift her ( she is almost 2) so picking her up is pretty much a must but it's been long enough and I finally have the energy to do so! Emotions stink! I hope u are feeling better. When I see pounds coming off that always helps!
RDCLambert 39 Posted December 27, 2013 some people suggest adding them to Sugar Free Chocolate Syrup or applesauce. Also some add them into Protein drinks.< /p>That liquid potassium is no joke. They gave me that in the hospital. .one sip and I told her they better find me a shot or something because there was NO way that was going down. And I'm usually usually a suck up kinda person..I'll do what's required but that stuff was impossible. She put it in a small cup of apple juice for me. It helped but still a no go. Good luck :/
RDCLambert 39 Posted December 27, 2013 Hi I was 12/16 and am curious for those of you around that date what you're eating. I am having Soups and just added in some eggs and cottage cheese. I probably pushed it a little today with 1/2 of a meatball and a piece of ham but those things went down easier than some cream Soups I have had. Thoughts and how does this compare to what you all are eating and your doctor's suggested plan? Thanks! I'm about the same. Ham for me too. I took very soft pieces and chewed it very well. I finally knew what it meant when people say " it felt good on my pouch". So I've had that here and there the last few days. I got some cheese grits and one instant pack last several meals. It's not a lot of Protein but I needed something. eggs have been good. I hade purchased yogurt and baby food for fruit. Does not appetize me AT ALL. I bought some frozen fruit tonight. I thaw thaw a piece or 2 at a time and it's cold and did very refreshing. Oh and I've done salmon. I bake that and mash it up real good. Great protein! That's pretty much it! I go to soft foods next week. Pretty excited! Lol
RDCLambert 39 Posted December 27, 2013 Apparently according to some others being moody is normal ! What I was told was that as our bodies lose weight rapidly it releases hormones! I was told that it's like having a girl going through puberty! I have realized when I start getting very moodu. It's time to eat. I have a rough time remembering since I don't get hungry but I think my blood sugar drops some. I eat a littke. And I'm good lol
RDCLambert 39 Posted December 27, 2013 Hello December Post ops! Hard to belive surgery is behind us and we are on the losers bench! I started my pre op diet on 12/2 and surgery was 12/17. Total weight loss has been 25lbs and 14.5 of those pounds since surgery. Truly I struggle with Protein and water..probably Water more than protein. I'm just not interested lol. But I'm doing my best and better each day. Water, shakes and food go down with no issues..no pain. Get some gas after drinking fluids...find myself burping a lot. I will start soft foods next week and I can't wait! Lol. I am never really hungry so I try to go in order of a shake, water, then food. .usually water again..then a shake, then food. Of course time in between but I try to eat 3x a day but that's rough. I'm just over pureed foods. Once I have more options I think I will be better!
