I am going Wednesday to my last visit before surgery on Dec. 2nd. The surgeon's office gives you a 10% discount on day of consent signing (part of Wednesday's visit) and requires if you don't buy there to bring in your supplies so they know you have the right Protein and Vitamins ready for when you go home...if not' date=' they will not do surgery! I'm buying my supplies there...I've been using the nectar products and LOVE the chocolate truffle and PB2 mixed together. For 8 ounces of milk and powders it is the pure protein at 36 grams. I love it and actually drink one every morning now.

I also will buy all of my bariatric vitamins from them - it is easier. They have all of them needed in chewables and they are bariatric specific so at least the first 3 months worth I'm buying there.

I also will buy the chicken broth and flavored protein liquid for Water both at 15 grams per serving. He requires 3 whole weeks on post surgery on nothing but liquids...it is going to be tough! Every surgeon seems to have their own ideas/program...at the 3 week post surgery mark you go in and get a check up and a nutritional consult to move to the next eating stage - I thought this was just to charge us more money, but they don't charge for the visit at all at 3 weeks, so...guess they are just conservative! he has a GREAT results record and is an Excellence in Bariatrics surgeon.

They are suppose to tell me more of things to get that will help at the hospital and after surgery on Wednesday so I'll share more then![/quote']

Thanks for the info. I just ordered some samples of powder. All ive had thus far is premade which is what Ill need on the go. The thought of making a shake in the morning makes me laugh as I barely make it out the door now! Lol. But when Im home and after surgery I want to make sure there is a powder I like. Vitamins Im kinda confused on. I currently take Vitamin D3, a multi vitamin and Iron. After surgery are u expected to take these pills or can I get them all in chewable I hope ?

I have been taking 1500 mg calcium citrate (for women younger than 60), 30 mg iron, Multivitamin, 500 mcg Vitamin B12, and a 5000 icu Vitamin D3 (because northwest is so gloomy). I can't take the Calcium or iron together or with the multivitamin. So in the am I take three pills, at lunch calcium and bedtime iron. It is so the absorption is slow within my system. What I also found out is that chewable or liquid vitamins are more pricey and you get less pills. I am gonna crush them into powder (which is a good absorption) and put into Protein Shake with a non-seeded fruit like mango or such... I was told to start now and then will continue after surgery and life. I believe it stops the day of surgery and then two days after.. I hate pills but it is for my health!! I have changed my eating habits and have lost 20 lbs. Good luck

Are you saying you crush the regular pills or the chewables? Where do you get the best deals on supplements?

I take a coffee bean grinder and pulsate the grinder into a powder type substance..not too much. I look at what we have called rite aid usually have buy one get one, costco, and walmart..

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
