Hi All...saw this app and thought it was a good idea to join. I'm hoping for my surgery to be some time in December...the sooner, the better. Going into my 3rd month of 6 months required time before surgery. Starting weight 341, current weight 320. Trying to quit smoking as well...ugh. is there a board here for that ?? I'm having a hard time with it. This looks like a great place with lots of great people and info. I'm in PA, single mom of 2.

Welcome! You were right, this is a great place with lots of great info! I was the same starting weight as you. Was probably higher but not sure of how high. I had rny in april and am now at 242 as of today! I lost about 40 preop and the rest since surgery. My suggestion would be to either look for a December group or start one. It helps IMMENSELY to be able to talk to others who are having surgery at the same time. It is nice to go through the process with others who are experiencing the same things at the same time. I had to quit smoking as well. It was hard but now so worth it! Best of luck to you.

Hi Dorian...thanks for the tip. If you don't mind me asking, how did you quit smoking?? I stop for a few days, and then have a "moment" and run to buy a pack. Then I'm extremely angry at myself for failing...again.

My surgeon said I had to or he wouldnt do the surgery. They check their patients for nicotine. Plus I have 3 adult children that would kill me! I also dont drink anymore and that was my HUGE downfall for smoking. ;)

That's great!! I'm not a drinker but I do love to smoke. I too have to quit before surgery. I'm going to call my Dr tomorrow and see if he will prescribe chantix. I wish I could go cold turkey but its just not working out so far.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
