brandnewme2013 97 Posted August 30, 2013 oh okay. bc I see other people can eat fruit abd veggies now. I guess it just depends on your surgeon It does because I was not able to eat veggies until I was 2 months out and I don't think I can have fruits or starches until I've lost majority of my weight or until I'm 6 months out. At this point I'm a little over 3 months out and I've lost 83lbs so I wouldn't be surprised if I am cleared for those things at my 6 month check up. However there is a thing called a modified diet that I can choose to do that will still allow me to have things like starches and fruits but not as much as one would on a regular diet. However we will have to see plus I really miss bread and although I've never liked wheat bread I would kill for a piece now or anything that mimics bread. scretens17 5 Posted November 6, 2013 i am 21 and just now looking into RNY and 99% sure it's what I want to do. I honestly thought I was the only 21 year old who wanted the surgery! It's so nice to know there are others around my age who have gotten it. I am afraid of being denied from my insurance because im so young. My bmi is 47 tho. :/ 1 terry1118 reacted to this

Definitely good that you're taking this step early! I spent 28 years obese but was fairly active and healthy for most of them, but not happy to be heavy. It was in my late 40's that I began having problems that affected my lifestyle and my health - high cholesterol, pre-diabetes, back, knee, and foot pain that drastically reduced my quality of life and made me miserable. I wish I had done the surgery years ago! I feel amazing now! :-)

My insurance company's requirements were a bmi of 40+ or a bmi of 35 w/co-morbidities. All insurance companies are different but for the most part it seems like they don't mind paying for weight loss surgery because it drastically reduces what they have to pay out in the future if you remain obese. Overweight people are generally more expensive than people of average weight. Good luck! 1 scretens17 reacted to this
