I'm in the same boat as you Tamisa73! This week I have my Biometric testing, meet with my nutritionist, and have to attend a 'seminar" then more appointments all September long!!

I was wondering what your BMI or weight is to NOT have to go on a massive pre-operative diet.

I'm 5"11 270 w/ BMI of 38.

Keep us posted on your journey!!

I'm sure I will have to do the liquid diet beforehand also (soooo looking forward to that, as I work in a grocery store and have to smell fried chicken come by me constantly.)

My last required appt before I meet again with my surgeon is Sept 24th and that's my psych evaluation. So if all goes well hopefully I can submit right after that and see what Anthem Blue Cross has to say. Not sure if I have to do a 6 month dietary program...I sure as hell hope not!

I started my process Aug 9. I'm glad you said you have Anthem - I'm in California. Pretty sure that insurance is about the same across the board - other that I also have to go through my Union as well :(

So hopefully your pre-op stuff will only take about 3 months - how awesome is that!!! I hear about some of these poor folks having to wait 6 months to a year - or longer!! Look at you in the fast lane!!

You've given me hope that I too will be able to start 2014 with a new outlook on my life. I pray our journey's are smooth sailing!!

I was wondering...

Did BCBS cover your pre-op tests...like the chest imaging, EKG and the dietitian? I know mine covers the biometric testing but not sure of the others...

Any info on this??? B)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
