From Georgia too

Recommended Posts

I'm from White, Ga in the northwest area around Cartersville. I have not been banded yet either. I'm waiting to see if my insurance is going to cover it or not. I have done everything that was needed. So it got turned in to the the insurance company so now we wait and see. My surgeon is Dr. Lin at Emory Bariatrics in Atlanta. If my insurance won't cover it I'm on a plane to Mexico and will have Dr. Ortiz do the surgery. Everything I have read about him sounds good. I have read his book Lap Band for Life and I think he is more than quailified. My big fear with having the surgery in Mexico is having someone here in the states if you have an emergency. I talked to Carolyn (She works in Dr. Ortiz's office) and she said the doctors in Georgia have gotten together and they charge Mexico banders $2000.00 to take over their care.

Can anyone tell me what the interest rate was with Capitol One? I have gotten a loan in case I have to self pay and its rate is 11% I think that is high I have a good credit score.

I am from Stone Mountain and I went to Dr. Huacuz in TJ, MX. I go to FillcentersUSA for my fills and aftercare which the location is in Roswell. They specialize in the treatment of out of country lap banders. There is no $2000 fee. I paid $7500 for roundtrip airfare, the band, a 2nite hospital stay, all the presurgery requirements, etc. The first visit to the fillcenterusa is around $400 and then each additional visit is around $300. It is kinda pricey but it beats having to pay $2000 to get in the door with the other guys and then having to pay for the fill on top of that!

Hi Roxie and welcome -- I have family in White and Cartersville (I live in Douglasville). The interest rate varies a lot based on your credit history and so forth. I looked at several financing companies and the lowest interest rate quoted to me was 9.9% (this was MySurgeryLoans.com -- they shop around to various financing companies). I did not go with that because they could not finance me the full amount of the surgery. I don't think I could've found any lower. My credit is OK but it is an unsecured loan, so this seems fairly typical. Some people go with a low-interest credit card instead.

Best of luck and I hope you keep us updated.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
