Anyone been told don't loose and if possibly gain 2-3 lbs prior to surgeon visit?

Recommended Posts

I have started my process, I'm doing support groups and have my Dieticain appt next week along with my Psych eval. I have to get those complete and then schedule the Dr appt. My situation is I am currently 40.8% as my BMI. My insurance requires nothing if your BMI is 40 or greater. The lady that I am currently seeing says I cannot loose any weight at all prior to the Dr visit and suggested I try to gain up to 5 pounds. Uggggh this frustrates me. I've been preparing for this for over a year just to get my mind where it should be and now for the next few weeks I've got to maintain eating bad food and try to gain a few pounds.

Has anyone else been in this situation? If so did you have to gain weight and what did that do to your mental state? Lol I'm kinda freaking out so I'm hoping someone else has been there done than and can shed some light on it for me.

Dont eat bad food to gain weight. Instead eat more portions of what you've been eating.

Where heavy clothes next time you have to go weigh in. Jeans, sweater & tennis shoes?

That's a good idea minus the shoes they make you weigh barefoot but I will make sure I wear something to help.

Nellie,

I think you will be fine. the insurance will look at your weight/BMI when you started the process. I was just at 40.9 BMI on my first visit, but I had many comorbidities. the day of surgery I was about 35 BMI. My doctor was very happy with the weight loss. He said it nake his job much easier.

I can't believe the Dr. office would suggest you gain weight. I would ask the Dr's nurse if you can't talk directly to your surgeon.

What you put back on you just have to take off again.

Good luck,

Rick

My situation is that my insurance requires 3 co morbidity factors if your BMI is below 40. I only have 1 that's been medically documented. I'm only borderline on another so if my insurance is to cover the surgery I have to stay at 40 BMI or wait for my health to decline enough so it kinda sucks. Also they do not turn in my final paperwork to the insurance company until my first appointment with the surgeon. So until that day my weight needs to stay exactly what it is. I was told today that next Wednesday they will schedule my appointment and it should be within a week. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I only have the next 2 weeks to worry over this.

I was told basically the same thing. I was at 40.5 BMI the first visit (June 2013) with the new dr. All they said was I couldn't loose anything or I would be out of the program. I have one more month to go before they can submit to insurance and schedule surgery. I had another visit just this last Tuesday and my BMI was right at 40.0! Talk about close! I can do this!!!

I was told to try and lose weight during my "waiting period" as some insurance companies want to see if you can stick to the bariatric food guide lines. If that helps!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
