Band Slippage

Recommended Posts

I'm confused too...however, it seems logical that it could have slipped up, since I was throwing UP through the band....who the heck knows!

Well, I hope your band didn't slip and you simply need more saline! Usually slippage does not cause you to lose restriction - in fact, it's usually the opposite (increased restriction, reflux, etc.).

That's what I've read...but will you tell me if it seems illogical, that if it slipped up, where it's narrower, that the bad would be less restricted? Maybe I'm looking at it the wrong way, but I could see why it would be more restricted slipping down, because there's a bigger amount of stomach being squeezed together...but if it were to move up, maybe it's not restricting it that much? I have a lot of saline in there now, so I don't get it.

As far as I know, it would be an EXTREMELY UNLIKELY event for the band to slip UPwards. I don't know if it is even possible when the correct surgical technique (e.g., Pars flaccida) is used.

You could feel like you have less restriction with it slipping DOWN, because your stomach would be able to hold more food. However, typically, you would also have other symptoms, like reflux due to the inefficient emptying of your stomach...

Maybe you have a leak and you lost saline because of that. Anyway, I hate to speculate too much ... you need to get to the bottom of this with your doctor. Please keep us updated!

Hi! I was banded April, 2007 and all has been great until December, 2007. I have this burning in my throat all the time. It is not in my chest like heartburn and I don't really feel like acid is coming up. I do clear my throat alot but I recently had bronchitis. I had .5 removed from my band to see if it would help and I did for maybe a week and now it's back. I have tried all types of acid reducers and now cough medicine to try to numb the burning. Has anyone experienced this and what did you do. :)

medial is towards the middle of the body, distal is farther away, anterior is front, posterior is back, inferior is below, superior above. Hope that helps!!

Normal to have severe pain when sitting along diaphragm or pain at apex of diaphragm. WAS severe after surgery, but still there and I wonder when it will pass hoping to get better each day but at a gross standstill

Has anyone had a slight fever when something gets stuck? I had all Fluid removed in Aug 07, then slowly added back in. Now have 7ccs...was fine for 3 weeks, but now when something gets stuck, I develop a slight (99) fever. Reflux sets in, and by 4 am, I'm usually ok.

Any similar stories?

JLYNN good luck to you, my fingers are crossed!!!

Please let us know how things went!

ps medial does mean towards the middle so the medial side of the stomach in a normal person would be more towards the left.

Hope that helps :cursing:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
