EGGS omg what happened?

Recommended Posts

I'm 4 months post op. I can no longer eat eggs. OMG wth?

Pre op, I lived on eggs-one of my favorite things to eat. For me pre op diet, I ate them 2-3x a day; every way including just egg whites.

So now. As soon as a bit hits my stomach, I'm in pain. Then they give me gas.

Bye bye eggs. I miss you :(

Anyone else experience this?

Yeppers! I can't even smell eggs anymore. Doesn't matter how they're cooked. They make me so sick every time.

LOL I'm just the opposite !! I was not a big fan of eggs before surgery now I love em' I'm glad because they are a good source of Protein and low in fat and calories. I cannot eat meat now...just a big turn off post surgery but I can do seafood. I think we all have some tradeoffs with this surgery !!!

That was the first thing to make me puke and I puked for a couple hours. I tried them again several months later and just on a salad then a while later scrambled again and it went ok. Give it some time and try again, it might be a food that is a no-no

My first post op meal was eggs and I puked so bad that I was afraid of them for months. I can eat them now tho.

Isn't it weird? I just am angry about it because I NEED the Protein from them.

I'm 43. I've had favorite foods my entire life. After surgery, I have not had one craving NOT ONE! I also have little to no appetite and could care less if I eat something for 'survival' vs 'taste'. My favorite foods don't matter to me one bit anymore.

I've never liked sea food. I am wondering if I should give it another try. I WISH I liked lobster - maybe I might now. LOL

I loved eggs pre-op but now ... I can't bring myself to touch them. It's so sad. I can only stomach them if they're masked in foods.

I get it Cherry. My Fav foods are not my Favorite anymore, not because I dont like it, because it's more of a "I don't get excited anymore." I guess the RNY forced me to have a "eat to live, not live to eat" mentality so I look at food in terms of nutrition now. For instance, when I see a piece of chicken, I'm like "Oh that's a big piece of Protein right there!" lol

I can't even finish a hard boiled medium egg. I get BAD stomach pains that eventually turns to a full/discomfort feeling that last forever. And then turns to gas. I have stayed away for a longtime. Never understood how I can eat 1/2 of something could eat more if I tried. And can't finish a medium egg??! Weird!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
