Question for people far out...

Recommended Posts

I was wondering when did you start eating raw vegetables. My favorite thing in the whole world is cubed Tomato, cucumber, onion, salt pepper and dash of plain yogurt, but I am not sure how long I have to wait... Probably until next local farmers season.. I would chew on anything raw at this point, I am so sick of drinking my meals ( it has been almost 4 weeks - 2 weeks preop and then almost 2 weeks post op... I am losing it in between preparing meals for my toddlers and for my husband.... Ugh, it would be easier if we all could drink Protein shakes and have yell-o for desert... (cue romantic music... I can almost see the whole family skipping and dancing happily on the beach with Protein Shakes in our hands, :)

I don't know, I am just in a desperate need of chewing. Popsicles make me sick and I hate puddings... Roar...

Help me Obi-wan Kenobi, you're my only hope....

Just saw my surgeon today. I'm 10 weeks and he cleared me for raw veggies. He told me though to be very careful with chewing them since its how most bowl obstructions occur. He said he had literally gone in and found lettuce and carrots in a big ugly mess in the intestine. Yuck

Preop weight 389 current weight 327 that's 62 lbs lost since RNY 6/11/13

Ugh, no way I want to experience this... Hope your advanced diet is easy on your pouch :)

Everyone is different and everyone's doctors are different. I would follow what your docs suggest on when you can advance. Advancing to early causes problems. I decided I knew more than my silly doctor and tried eggs 1 week post op. After throwing them up I knew I had made a big mistake. However I did not learn my lesson there. I tried some ham lunch meet about a week later. Threw that up as well. I don't eat eggs much or ham lunch meat.

So I understand wanting to advance - If I never eat Soup again for the rest of my life I will be just fine. Remember it is just a short time and you will advance when your pouch is ready. When you do advance take your time. Try each ingredient on their own before mixing them together. When I did eat salads I found that creamy dressing made me sick, but thin dressings like Italian went down easier.

Good luck!

Thanks Music, by no means I will start advancing without my doctors blessing :) I was just curious when other people started raw veggies, since I really miss them a lot :)

I would wait until I got my surgeons clearance before I did anything. Its not fun being sick for hours because you did not chew something right or its caught..... OMG that is so painful and you can't do anything !!! Can you steam or get your veggies soft first then when you advance go raw. I would think that raw veggies are VERY difficult to digest... I don't know if the pain would be worth it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
