Were you in pain on your drive home?

Recommended Posts

So my question is how much pain were you in upon discharge during your drive home? I will have about an hour+ drive home upon discharge and I know how awful it can be. My son had knee surgery about 4 months ago and the drive home was the worst thing I had to ever see with him, he was in tremendous pain even with pain meds on board. Just thought I would ask those who have been there.

It wasn't bad for me but they gave me pain meds right before I walked out the door! I'm sure that helped. Anything over 2 hours and they will want u to stop and walk for 10 minutes or so. Other than that it was smooth sailing for me. You may want to bring a pillow to brace your tummy if you need to cough or to block seatbelt. :-)

I puked the whole way home. Pain was fine, nausea kicked my butt.

Just make sure to have a pillow you can hold against your stomach. That helped me a lot. :)

My ride was about 45 minutes. It was the worst part of the whole surgery for me. I hugged a pillow during the drive and mom tried to avoid bumps but I was in really bad pain. They gave me a tiny shot of morphine a couple hours before I left. Wasn't enough and we had to pick up my lortab on the way home. When I got to the house I was in excruciating pain.

Not pain but a lot of discomfort. It was mainly because my FIL drove like an idiot. We hit traffic on the way home (2 hrs out of town) and out of anger, he drove like a freaking maniac. I felt every bump and turn. Never cursed someone so much in my life.

My ride home was a little over an hour. I had a sever bloated felling but little pain. The offered to let me push the morphine button one more time before they disconnected my IV and release me. I have my surgery on the 21st. This morning I feel pretty good no pain or nausea and getting down my Protein with no problems.

i can only sleep on my back or left side; if I roll over on my right side it will wake me up pretty quick with pain. I did gain four pounds during my stay at the hospital

Good luck Med,

Rick

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
