So I am now 8 days post op and everything was going great until yesterday. For one I was dehydrated. I thought I was doing good with the drinking but I guess it wasn't enough. The second problem I had was a bit scarier. Now I had been having BM's for a few days. They were liquid which I was concerned with but the doctors office said it was ok. So yesterday when I had a BM there was some blood. I called the office and they asked about color but I wasn't sure because I didn't check that well so they asked I keep an eye on it and if its dark to call them back. Well a few hours later I went again and it was dark and there was a lot. So I called and ended up in the ER. They ran tests and called the surgeon on call (who is not my surgeon but the head of my program). He didn't feel as though I needed to be admitted because there were no symptoms of things being wrong other than the blood in my BM. So he said for me to follow up with my surgeon today. I have an appointment with my surgeon today and hope to get some answers. The thing is that I've had 2 BM's today with the same thing going on. It's really scary and I was wondering if anyone had this problem.

Thanks for your help

I did not have any of those problems ... you were smart in contacting your dr. right away. They will get you back on track right away. Good Luck !!!

Red blood in stool indicates that it is around the rectum. Hemorrhoids are the most common cause for red blood.

The reason they asked about the color of your stools is that black in your stools indicate bleeding in the colon

Calling your doc is a must.

I have had both like music said the bright red was from hemorrhoids and usually stops but the black turned out to be a bowel obstruction but with this is a lot of pain and usually no stool just liquid.< /p>

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
