Protein Frustration

Recommended Posts

My go to list:

Greek yogurt

Mini babybel

Shrimp/fish

Edamame

Beef/turkey Jerky

I only drink premier Protein shakes. (Sams/Costco) everything else makes me gag.

My goal is 60g per day. So I guess this would depend on your goal and how far out you are.

Try egg whites. You just add then to your drinks and they add no flavor just Protein. Make sure you get the double pasteurized not the ones from the grocery store.

I am actually waiting on my surgery date so I started trying Protein Shakes now do I would have an idea of what I liked. I am afraid when I have surgery I won't be able to get it in during my liquid and full liquid stage. I have tried some Protein Water and it is ok it has 10 grams of protein per 12 oz of water. When I think of 60-80 grams that is overwhelming

There's a chocolate Muscle Milk Protein Drink. It's thick and I think it tastes so good...almost like Choc milk.

Premier Protein 11oz - 30g

Dannon light & fit greek - 12g

Babybel or string cheese - 6g

1.25 oz beef Jerky - 14g

That is 62 grams... If I have a piece of fish for dinner I'm well over 60 grams.

Maybe cottage cheese instead of yogurt?

I am not sure how to you could get protein in during the liquid phase without using Protein Shakes. You really need to try one that you can handle for a few weeks.

Have you tried the Syntrax Metrix or Nectars? They have no Protein tast and are so good! Check them out on www.bariatricadvantage.com. You can order samples there to try before ordering a big container.

Do keep in mind that usually your taste buds change. Also the egg white I suggested can be added to any liquid. I use mine in Powerade. 10 pumps is 33 grams of protein.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
