(Dumping) What did you eat?

Recommended Posts

I know everyone has different instructions for sugar/carbs/sugar alcohols etc. I'm wondering what you ate that made you dump?

I don't mean that you are too much...but something specific you ate that caused textbook dumping:

Nausea, quesiness, cramping, diarrhea, weakness, sweating, vomiting, heart palpitations.

the 2 biggest concerns I had about the RNY surgery opposed to the band for me was how long it would take to get back to work and the thoughts of dumping. I have taken care of patients and had co-workers that had constant dumping syndrome or IBS so was terrified of having it. well had a glass of orange juice only drank 30cc before it happened and so far the last for me.

I've dumped twice. First was white cheddar popcorn, and the second was this weekend. About 2 tablespoons of fried ice cream (gasp!).

Cream of wheat, movie theatre popcorn, ice cream (no sugar added, not sugar free), and most recently grapes. The key with every episode was that the food item was eaten alone. No other carbs or Protein. And I hadn't eaten anything for hours before....if I have a little Protein I can eat a little of almost anything. I have some STRANGE food combinations some days :)

For me it was Italian ice cream. I was the mall with my mom and we decided to split it. Well he ate most of it I had just a few spoonfuls. About twenty minutes later while shopping for a bra I had to run out of the store leaving my mom to fend for herself in a wheelchair and threw up outside. I got horrible nausea and dizziness. People looked at me really strange for leaving my mom in the middle of a store. She used her legs to roll her self outside to check on me.!

Most of the foods I eat (minus broth soups) make me hyperventilate, gives me cold chills, nausea followed by vomiting, dizziness, shaking. Last episode was tortellini with pesto sauce. I had maybe 3 tortellini and that's all it took to send me to "hugging the toilet bowl".

Even when I dump I don't throw up, occasionally will get diarrhea but its weak, shaky, sweaty, palpitations, nausea, exhaustion....with the really bad one I slept for hours after it finished....it was exhausting!

It is exhausting indeed. Who said RNY is the easy way out, right? If they only knew!

Pasta. Rice. bread orange juice (sometimes) sugary or carby things are huge triggers

When I dump I almost always throw up first. Then the rest comes out the other end violently. I cramp I get chills and shakes. I sometomes have a feaver. It happens about once every other week.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
