Hi there!

I didn't have a preop diet. Just the day before was an all liquid diet. The handbook and doctor said no smoking or drinking alcohol six weeks before surgery.

I know my friend had to do a fasting but she also needed to shrink down her liver and she went somewhere else.

Who is your doctor, if you don't mind me asking.

I don't have a doctor yet as I am still going through the Kaiser program. Once we jump through all their hoops, we get sent over to Pacific Bariatric

Hello to both of you! I am also in San Diego going thru the Kaiser program, I am wondering how long did you have to wait from your last class to surgery date??

I was just called with potential start dates for the classes and I am incredibly torn!! one date is a month sooner than the other but would make my days start VERY early. Decisions Decisions!!

Hi there!! Im currently in options so I will have to let you know once I finish classes on May 1st how long it takes. My sister did her options classes in Riverside and the classes were only three months, but when she started, they told her the whole process was a year long. It was about three months before she got scheduled and she actually really pushed for it since she is a teacher and needed to have surgery during summer break!! When I started, they told us it was a 9 month process. I've heard that people from Kaiser have had their surgery at Pacific Bariatric in as little as three weeks, but im sure it fully depends on whether you lose your 10% and how busy the schedule is over at Pacific Bariatric. Let me know if you have any more questions. When I was starting class, I took the very first one that I could get into just cause I had gone in the program previously and walked out. I know I want the surgery and feel very prepared for it, so I knew I just wanted to get the classes done ASAP!!! Best of luck to you!!

Why do you have to get up so early?? They must have made an earlier class cause I take the 9AM on Thursdays in Clairmont. Where are you taking your classes?

I had two options of start dates April 3rd for a 4pm class or May 15 for a 7pm class. I wanted to start as soon as I can so I took the April 3rd class. But that means I have to leave work ealry, so that means I have to go in to work early :) So I will have to be at work by 0545 :-D (I am a contractor, and also own the company) So there is no paid time off or any thing like that, if I don't provide the services I don't get to bill. So going in early to make up the hours is a must.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
