MamboMan 6 Posted October 11, 2013 Thank you so much that really helps clarify things...I was freakin out...and yes they said one day in the hospital is all they approved me for...that seems crazy. No problem. My surgeon put down a random date, several weeks before I was to meet him to schedule my surgery. My insurance told me it happens all the time and when the surgeon sets the correct date they will usually stay on the phone with the insurance until they get he authorization. My guess is that is what is happening with you. Not sure what to tell you about them only approving one day and not sure what they mean by "clinical." I'm sure your doc will take care of it for you - that's what they are there for and they handle this every day, so just breathe, it will work out.
MamboMan 6 Posted October 11, 2013 Usually 1 dsy is all anyone stays unless complications arise. . My doc has us stay 3 days. Surgery on day one, barium swallow study on day two to check for leaks again (he checks while still in surgery using a tube through your nose down to your pouch with blue dye) and if that looks ok you start on liquids. Day 3 if all is going well you start on puréed foods for a couple of meals and then you discharge.

I'm using the Bariatric Advantage shakes and they are kinda yucky...hope I can handles them post op cause they have great nutrition stats. I'm loosing about 2-3 lbs a day though, so that part is exciting. myra39 24 Posted October 12, 2013 I feel like i'm daydreaming all this. I have been on Protein Shakes forever already it seems. Trying to loose weight before the surgery. I've started messing with my shakes. I bought low carb high Protein powders instead of pre mixed. I put a cup of ice and a cup of milk in and blend them into a nice milkshake consistency when the weather is hot. The last three days it has been a bit chilly though and I have had trouble drinking them. So this morning I tossed my milk and chocolate powder into the blender. Whipped it up good, poured it into a coffee mug and warmed it in the microwave a bit. Very thick, crazy sweet tasting, but doable. I may nix the milk and add Water instead and try it that way tomorrow. Post op is on 10/17/2013 At that time I will start an all liquid diet that will last until my surgery. Surgery is on 10/29/2013 2 Tamisa73 and LacedUp reacted to this

Plus I looked forward to chewing those Barnies and Freds (Flintstones). Also, can you do the Slimfast 3-2-1 as your meal replacements? I thought they weren't too bad. butterfly2433@gmail.com 19 Posted October 12, 2013 Hello everyone! So I saw this thread and I just want to say that I am also an October surgery! Mine is scheduled for October 29th and I am very excited/nervous! My starting weight was 413. I have been on the liver reduction diet for 8 months and my weight is now 323. I have been so nervous that I haven't done a good enough job at shrinking my liver and when I go into surgery I am terrified that I will wake up to my doctor telling me that my liver wasn't ready so he won't do the surgery. Have any of you felt that way too? 1 Doing It 4 Them reacted to this

Molly 10/2/13[/quote'] Hi MadisonMolly, Congratulations on your new life! I noticed in your post that you were/are taking Flinstones Vitamins. There are a lot of surgeons that recommend them, but I'm not sure why - they are incomplete and there are better (and less expensive) choices out there. I don't want to tell you not to take them, I just wanted to pass on what I have learned because I would hate it if someone ended up with deficiencies and other problems. Here's a good article about them and if you do a search you can find more. http://thebypassedlife.com/whats-the-fuss-about-flintstones/

DevilBlueDress 189 Posted October 14, 2013 Only a few days till pre op diet ' date=' any tips so I don't cheat .[/quote']Always have something handy. In between Slimfast 3-2-1 and Protein Drinks, I'd drink tea, eat sugar free Jello, homemade stock, and from local restaurants I had Pho broth and wonton broth. rlm34 42 Posted October 14, 2013 Only a few days till pre op diet ' date=' any tips so I don't cheat .[/quote'] Drink lots of Water. Keep yourself busy. I did cheat on day 5 of my pre-op diet. I was mortified that I did...but I figure im only human and this is precisely why I'm having this surgery. I reevaluated why I did it and have put plans in place to prevent it happening again. When I'm now ravenous, I drink water or zero calorie drinks approved by my nut, or I go for a brisk walk. Some evenings if I start to feel out of control, I'll go to bed early and sleep thru it. Each morning my hunger seems to reset to normal and I'm ready to start the day on my shakes again. Good luck. It's easy for some and very difficult for others. All the best :-) Rachel.
