Is this right? I'm in Dallas.

I finally heard from the hospital and surgeon's office as to what this is going to cost me since I am self pay. $15,000 for the hospital and $13,000 for the surgeon. And I won't even be spending the night in the hospital. That sounds completely outrageous to me since I've heard a lot of you saying it was around $15,000 total. So my question is this...are there any good surgeons in the DFW area that will only cost me around $15.000 total? I really appreciate your help!

I've heard that's the going rate around here. However, I'd call several of the doctors and get their self-pay rates. I used Dr. Benavides in Richardson, and I don't think they are quite that much.

You may want to consider using some of that money and flying to Mexico to have it done for $8500. Lots of people on this board have done that and been very happy.

Edit: I just caught the $28k total....yeah, that seems very high. I think Dr. B is about $15k TOTAL.

Mexico seems so scary to me! I went to Hawaii for my honeymoon and got hurt in a parasailing accident, went to one of the hospitals there and it freaked me out because of how unclean it was. And they're USA! I guess I'm just a wimp.

By ALL reports on this board, the hospitals are very clean and the service is great.

There's also a doctor in Colorado that does it for $9500. You'd have to look around the board for the name.

But call Dr. B. His office number is 972.331.8100. Make sure you tell them you need the total cost, including the surgery center.

The Doctor in Colorado is Dr. Kirshenbaum. His website is www.lapbandrockies.com. I am considering him and have chatted with people who have used him and been happy. My concern is the follow up visits for the fills. I wonder if it is just as cheap to pay 12,500 here in the DFW area as it is to go back to Colorado for fills or to pay someone here for the fills. Has anyone had any experience with NovaBody Solutions?

I have Atnea pos and I'm considering having the lap band. I know that my insurrance pays 80% but I don't know how much it cost. Does anyone who has had the surgery tell me what they paid with insurrance?

I saw Dr. Davidson in Dallas with nova body solutions. They offer the surgery for 12,500 all inclusive. I am not using him for my surgery since I live in Amarillo but he is whom I would've chosen had things not worked out here.

Last time I checked, I think Self Pay at the Surgery Center of Richardson was $15,000 and it included a year of fills.

Check them out. I love Dr. Fox - and there are several other great docs there, too.

They offer regular information seminars - and cost is always covered in that.

Good Luck!!

I used Dr. Robert Powell in Richardson, Texas and am happy with the surgery. He's done many successful procedures and has a lot of experience as a surgeon.

I believe Dr. Benevides and Dr. Powell work out of the same surgery center, The Surgery Center of Richardson. Dr. Powell and Dr. Benevides' offices are right next to each other in a building across the street. There are also several other doctors that work out of that Surgery Center, all doing lapbands I believe.

The surgery center is run by the American Institute of Gastric Banding, so I'm assuming Dr. Benevides and Dr. Powell are both members of that Institute. You can check out more about AIGB at www.aigb.com. They also offer informative seminars. Dr. Powell's website is www.weightnot.net.

Dr. Powell's flat rate for the surgery and a year of follow up and fills was $15,000. I believe Dr. Benevides is the same. In fact, the only difference I have found between the two of them is their post op diet instructions. Dr. Powell recommends a much longer clear liquid stage.

I hope this helps!

Robin

I think you are right. I have decided to have the whole thing done locally. I will come out at the same price by the time its all done and I'll have the benefit of having my doctor local in case I have an emergency.

My total was 16K. I used Dr. Bryce at Lonestar Lapband in Rowlett. They use Lakepointe hospital. That includes after visits for one year and 3 fills.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
