DLCoggin 1,788 Posted September 7, 2013 I'm right there with you guys. Fiber is always a struggle. But...my wife and I have a plan. This weekend we're going to stock up on "green smoothie" stuff. Lots of spinach and then whatever else we can think of to throw into the blender! My plan is to drink a green smoothie every day for at least a week (a month would be even better but baby steps) and see what happens with my fiber. Some people swear that it increases your energy level and does all kinds of cool things. Stay tuned!

HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 199 Green smoothie fans swear they're quite tasty. I suppose the recipe has a big bearing on that but there are about a billion on the net and I don't have the patience to read past about two. Lol. So my plan is to just throw in whatever stuff strikes my fancy at the grocery store and see what happens. I'll let you know!!
music1618 879 Posted September 7, 2013 I think it's more likely that individual results depend on a whole shopping list of variables. For example' date=' I think it's easier for men to lose weight, lose it more quickly, and see changes in weight more quickly in response to diet, than it is for women. I know you are also doing weight training - you're very likely reducing fat stores but increasing muscle volume. And of course muscle weighs more than fat. Now compare that to my situation. My activity level is fairly constant. No weight training. Average calorie intake closely monitored. Average calorie expenditure comparatively constant. I'm two plus decades older than you are. And I'm a guy. So the number of variables likely to affect my weight, up or down, are considerably fewer than they are for you. I know you are actually below your original goal weight and trying to lose a little more. That would point to the strong possibility that you're running up against your set-point. As recently as 2009-2010, set-points were considered by many to be theoretical. That has changed in the last few years with more and more research yielding strong evidence that set-points are very real. The human body is (unfortunately) much more receptive to weight gain than it is to weight loss. When we had to hunt and gather to survive, obesity was not an issue. Starvation was. So our bodies evolved defenses to protect against starvation. Your body will literally fight to maintain the set-point that it's at. Set-point ranges are usually about 10% of your total body weight. So if you weigh 150 lbs, each set-point range is about 15 lbs. If you're at the top of your current range, losing a few lbs is relatively easy. On the other hand, if you're at or near the bottom of your current range, your body will defend the set-point by reducing your metabolism, slowing your heart rate, etc. Making it considerably more difficult to lose even modest amounts of weight. Sorry, probably a lot more information than you wanted. To answer your question directly, I think the more experience you have logging, the better you become at interpreting the information in your log and identifying how changes in carbs/fat/protein/exercise/water will translate into weight changes. I always enjoy reading your posts and exchanging ideas with you music! Have a great day!![/quote'] I always forget about the male/female factor. Through this journey and logging I am remind just how incredible our bodies are. Especially our brains. The things that are hard wired into our brains to make sure we stay alive are still present hundreds of years later. Thanks for reminding me of that. And you never give too much information in your posts. My husband thanks you as well - you got me into logging my food. Something he has tried to do for about 2 years. We now have the same obsession with logging. 2 DLCoggin and oldoneyoungagain reacted to this

ponchik 77 Posted September 7, 2013 I'd be very curious if this worked for you. i thought about it pre surgery, even considered buying this fancy ninja blender with single serve cup, but then I figured it is not worth $160. On the other hand, if green smoothie per day increases fiber intake significantly, I'll consider it
caleksa 48 Posted September 7, 2013 I have hit my first stall! I will be 10 weeks post-op on Monday. I have lost 55lbs so far. According to MFP I am doing everything right, I know stalling is normal but DAMN! I am so frustrated. So much so that today I have completely given up on logging. I have nibbled and tasted everything that came across my path including dipping my finger in homemade chocolate frosting. It was amazing! I've only lost .5 lb this week, I pray it doesn't last. kristy3k 1,133 Posted September 8, 2013 So must admit taking a week off from logging. Took my daughter her car .. She's in tech school for the airforce in Biloxi . Had a freak out moment when realized no workout room in the hotel and mainly no SCALE!! So was lax on Protein and I know up on carbs but came home only up a pound. But honestly felt sluggish and I think it was cuz I was out of my routine. Sunday... Beginning of the week. Back at home with scale so am ready to get back to my routine and feeling that control. Got up and ran 2 miles drank my Protein Shake and ready to hit this week head on and get rid of that pound!!! date of surgery 02/21/12 surgery weight 340 lbs. current weight 146 lbs
DLCoggin 1,788 Posted September 8, 2013 Kristy, Kristy, Kristy - how could you forget to pack your scale? LOL! I really think it's good to take an occasional break from logging (or the scale!). I don't log when I'm on vacation. I think everyone enjoys and benefits from getting away from the "routine" for a bit.
kristy3k 1,133 Posted September 8, 2013 My daughter thought I was crazy... We went to an outlet mall and I found a scale in the women's restroom so I got my fix!!! date of surgery 02/21/12 surgery weight 340 lbs. current weight 146 lbs 1 DLCoggin reacted to this

I was going after the vitamix, but decided on the Healthmaster that Montel Williams advertises for $199.99. This store sells them for $129.00 and it comes with a small recipe book by Montel. I've made my smoothies and sobet with it and I love it. Going to do like DL make a spinach smoothie with spinach, apples, mango, basically any fruit, thus fruit and fiber at the same time. Montel has a recipe for this that "supposedly" he drinks everyday. Going for it after I have surgery.
