I have to be quiet to hear my band whisper to me

Recommended Posts

Seems like I have adequate restriction when I am quiet, eat tiny and slowly, chew chew chew, not have anything else going on when I eat, and kind of go in a trance to be at one with the band. Ommmmmm.

If I hog, go quickly, and multi-task, I can ignore my band until it is too late... Ow! Yuck!

I wonder if in general people who don't slow down and listen for the band to whisper end up needing more restriction to kind of force the issue.

I'm just thinking out loud. I'm no saint. I'm trying to have more meals at a slow pace...but I'm not succeeding every time.

I guess I used to go into a trance binging...I can learn to go in a trance and slow down and savor!

Great observation! My doctor recommends we devote 45 minutes to the meal and do nothing else. I no longer eat in my recliner watching TV. :) I also pre-measure my food because some days I could eat and eat and eat as long as I go slow, slow, slow.

I love the trance thought. Ommmmmmmmmmmmmmm. :(

This is a terrific assessment of the way the band works--I TOTALLY agree that we have to be quiet and patient and in that way it speaks to us the most effectively. It's the most important lesson I have had to learn, and even almost four years out I still have to remind myself of it regularly.

Gee, your pretty sharp. I am right at two years post op, and it took me a full year to really realize what you are saying. Its so true, you hit the nail right on the head. Life was so much easier when I realized that.

With that in mind, I think you will see your goal sooner than you realize.

I know I did.

2 years post op.

at goal! (3 times adjusted lower goal)

210 pounds lost, life is so good!

Thanks for the advice. I know that now I can eat and eat if I am doing anything else (I love to read while I eat). All the advice I read on LBT is going to help me be better prepared post-band.

Thanks all

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
