Ok so today I started on full liquids and Protein Shakes. I'm trying to get this Protein Shake down and it tastes too sweet and its taking me forever to drink. Blah! It's Boost Glucose Control Rich chocolate flavor... It's 15g of Protein for 8 oz. Any suggestions on getting this to go down? I'm thinking I should put the drinks in the fridge. I'm drinking this one at room temp.

I put my Protein Drinks in the fridge, I drink the Special K vanilla, it has 10 grams of Protein, but it's not so sweet. I'm 7months post op & I still can't get a whole bottle down, their very filling. I'm 7 months post op & eatting is still trial & error, but I've lost 115lbs, so it's all good. Good luck on your weight loss journey, Peace, Mary

My nut said that those drinks have a lot of sugar and extra stuff you don't need. He said look at the calorie content. It Should be 4 calories to each gram of Protein.

Lets use the Special K Protein Shake as an example:

It has 10g of protein - so 40 calories are for protein.

It has a total of 190 calories so 150 calories are from other items. It has 18g of sugar. 1 gram of sugar has 3.87 calories. You are consuming more calories from sugar than you are for protein.

Just something to keep in mind.

That's why I thought the boost glucose Protein Drink would be ok. It has 190 cal, 7g fat, 16g carbs, 4g sugars, & 16g of Protein. But the chocolate flavor is icky to me.

The one thing I have learned is that if you don't like the taste it is hard to stick with it. There are so many options out there. Keep trying different ones.

For dinner I got some minestrone Soup from a italing restraint, took out the noodles, blended the soup, added 1/2 scoop unflavored protein powder and had a delicious dinner....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
