(Former) Cereal junkies unite!

Recommended Posts

Ok so I am starting my 6th week and I have a ton of almond milk left over from my cream of wheat days. The nurses at my doctors office aren't awesome about answering the phone or calling you back. So has anyone tried a little bowl of Cereal yet? I know most cereal is junk but has anyone tried the kashi or Special K cereals with Protein in them?

I tried the Special K Protein and I honestly think a cardboard box would taste better. However my hubby liked it.

I'm not there yet but my nut said at 6 wks I could have Cheerios, rice crispy and or Special K cereals! I've had the Special K in the past and thought it was good.

I do enjoy a bowl of Special K Protein cereal every now and again! I like it with some cinnamon and a packet of sweetnlow on it! Otherwise it has a bland taste.

I tried Cheerios 1/2 cup and it has worked for me. I have them once every two weeks or so so not every day. I tried shredded wheat but did not agree with me.

Much better habits than the overflowing bowl of coco crispies every morning.

Cheerios sound great, I will have to try them soon. I agree about it being a much better habit than the coco crispies overflowing!

I like Special K Protein which was ok, and tried kashi and it was like eating a tree branch.

I like the Special K Protein & some of the kashi flavors. I eat Kashi a few times a week cause it seems to keep me full the longest of any Breakfast type food. For me, I'm mindful of carbs but am not neurotic about them, but only do whole grains. I've lost 80 pounds at 6 months. I also eat one serving of fresh fruit a day, and have a 2nd snack of either cut up fresh tomatoes or a third of a red bell pepper every day, all,of which are carbs. I stick with hi nutrient value carbs, and for me, none of them have been a gateway. Plus, the Kashi, fruit & veggies help with the all important Fiber intake!

That is awesome! I think the way you are losing is a great healthy way. This is how I want to be, because if not then we could get into trouble later if we are terribly anti-carb.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
