CRAVINGS!

Recommended Posts

I don't know what to do! I am having these terrible cravings for fast food and a bunch of other stuff. The list could go on and on from hotdogs, fries, sodas, chicken etc. Im thinking about just going and chewing on the food then spitting out, but I don't want to get sick. And I have come this far. I don't want to give in but these cravings are just getting to me... I don't know what to do D:

Don't get started developing an eating disorder. Its head hunger. Drink more Water. Go for a walk. Get into exercising. Call a friend. Go shopping and look at clothes. Fast food is bad my friend. Spitting out food will start you on a slippery slide and still allow you to ingest fat and carbs.

I remember those cravings... but I also remember that I decided one day to stop at McDonalds and indulge in my craving just to get it out of my "system". I ordered a cheeseburger, fries and tea.... (and of course a choclate chip cookie) the lady placed my order on the tray on the counter and when I looked at it I realized that there was NO WAY I could eat it.... the smell made me sick! From that day on I stayed away from the fast food places. It's a mental craving for the junk food.... hang in there and resist. It'll pass and you'll be better for it! (PS: I didnt eat the food, wasted almost $10 and tossed it in the trash! Lesson learned!)

I'm almost 2 years post op, but I remember the cravings those first few months too. So when I graduated to solid foods I thought I want to try a happy meal because I was craving it soooooo bad. Lesson learned about 15 minutes after I tried to eat 1/2 of the burger and a few fries. I puked everywhere and more than once!! I hurt in my chest, my belly, I broke out into a sweat, my head was spinning and I realized then that there's no food out there worth making me feel that way. Dumping syndrome is no joke and I felt so sluggish after ingesting all that fat. To this day I cannot digest much fast food at all or hamburgers period and I'm ok with that. I don't need those things and my body has sure let me know it too. However, I love Mexican food. So we go out and eat there and I know what I can and cannot tolerate. I order reasonable and eat til I'm satisfied and I even enjoy a piece of pizza

When I crave it. So there are still restaurant foods I can enjoy. I just know my limit and what I can and cannot handle anymore. Good luck to you and hang in there. Those cravings get better and I found that Water, extra Protein, praying, writing in my journal, going for a walk, ect helped get my mind off of food and that pull to eat what I knew I really didn't need. You can do this and I wish you all the best!! ;)

I totally hear you! I used to have the biggest thing for homemade hamburgers, but now I really love homemade turkey burgers (minus the bun of course! ) I just buy the ground turkey and make the turkey burgers myself...I find it's much more tasty than the premade patties, and I can season it the way I like it. Then I add a small slice the cheese and Tomato, and I'm good to go!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
