Does anyone have problems with corn? I know its hard to digest but has anyone tried it? I have a favorite zucchini dish that is just little zucchini chunks, little stewed Tomato chunks and corn with just a sprinkle of mozzarella.

Anyway... I'm craving a little bit of corn and was wondering if anyone had tried it.

Hi!! I'm almost 2 years out and I eat a little corn. I put it in taco Soup and things like that. I definitely don't overdo it, but I'm able to eat it without any problems. I hope this helps! :)

Yes, but only in Soup and will not try it again. Corn cannot be digested, it does not break down because we lack the necessary enzyme to do so. It will stay in your pouch as it is until you eliminate it. Though, I've read from other RNY folk that they could tolerate it in small amounts. Personally, corn is on my black list.

I wonder if it would be okay if you chop up the corn in a food processor to make the pieces smaller? It should be more digestible, or at least be able to pass easier. I, too, have a favorite recipe that includes corn - I'm required by family to make it EVERY Thanksgiving. :-)

I went back through my diet plan from the doctor and my nut and there was nothing on there that said no corn. So I made the recipe and everything went just fine. I tried to eat just a few kernels at a time and chewed them until there was just about nothing left. It went down easy and I don't have any blockage symptoms.

Just remember that corn is not a fruit or a vegetable. Corn is a grain and should be treated as such. Corn has as much sugar as it does Protein and that means I won't be eating it anytime soon.

I had my surgery May 13, and I didn't know I wasn't supposed to eat corn. I have had corn on the cob at least four different occasions and I didn't have a problem.

Good point. Totally forgot that corn is a starchy, sugary grain. I'm not supposed to have it anyway. I'm a rule-follower so no corn for me. I'll still make my Thanksgiving recipe for everyone but I'll make a small amount w/o corn for myself.

I'm 9 weeks tomorrow. Last night i thought i picked out all the corn from what i was eating. I know a few slipped through. They seemed to go down ok. Today I've had a very angry, rumbeling pouch. I didn't put two and two together until I read this thread. I was told no corn for about a yr or two

Eat it in various Soups, casserole, occasionally as a side dish. No issues at all.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
