I just has my surgery August 7th and I got sent home today. I'm able to tolerate liquids and Jello, I also had oatmeal today, but I'm not able to finish 2tsp of it. I'm extremely tired and run out of breath very easily. I tried walking for 10 minutes today 2x but I'm so exhausted. I just want the pain to go away. How long will I be in pain for and will I be able to take in more food? I'm not hungry at all but I can't go days without eating enough.

The pain does suck at first but it will get better, you are just two days out, you have to realize that you are going to be super weak and can't do a lot. For the first week, just taking a shower exhausted me. My advice- rest, you can get up and walk around but you aren't going to be able to walk a mile each time. As long as your getting up throughout the day you will be fine. Don't try and take on the world two days post op!!! Also go slow with foods if your able to get Jello that's good. For the first week all I could get down was Popsicles! I would stay away from the oatmeal for awhile. Good luck, take some deep breaths and don't stress!

You're still so close to surgery....you'll be able to do more everyday. Concentrate on getting in your Protein and Water. Then advance very slowly. We had major surgery, and our bodies rebel a little at first....it's not uncommon to feel really dragged out after any major surgery, so walk a little several times a day, and try to be patient.

Just remember you had major surgery just days ago. It took me almost a month to be able to do anything without feeling exhausted. The pain will go away you just have to rest so your body heals. I would switch to cream of wheat cause it's smoother than oatmeal. It's amazing how little you can eat and be full. Continue to walk but maybe to the mailbox & back. It's a marathon not a sprint when it comes to this. You will be awesome but be patient :)

Pain meds also have an effect on how you feel. They help you manage pain but they also make you sluggish, tired, and maybe a little unsteady - hence the driving restriction. Recovering from surgery you are weak and need time to heal. The first week I walked my driveway as much as I could manage (150ft long). My doctor encouraged climbing stairs, too. It's a safe activity with a railing to hold onto. Once you are done with the meds you will feel more lively. Later on, adding soft foods will help feel even better.

By my fourth day I was feeling well enough to be taking my pain meds only at night. After a week I didn't need them anymore. But everyone is different - take yours as long as needed. Be easy on yourself this first couple weeks - you're healing. Do what you can and rest when you need to. :-)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
