First day pre-op diet- SO HUNGRY!

Recommended Posts

So my surgery is in 2 weeks! I am soo excited! I started the pre op diet today and I'm so hungry! I'm supposed to have 4 Protein shakes, any veggies (no starch), and I'm allowed a handful of fruit and 2 tbs of oil. I'm a pastry chef so there are so many temptations at work and i was great today and didn't eat anything I wasn't supposed to but it was very hard! Just wondering if anyone has tips! And what your favorite Protein shake is, I've been drinking

Premier Protein, but it's a little chalky.

Thanks!

Hi I found scrambled eggs (no milk) filling and very low carb but has protein. Anything low carb Atkins diet on phase one will do. This pre diet is to get your liver to loose weight to help the. Surgeon in the operation. I didn't make sense at Kings and Protein shakes and my surgeon says my liver was very small and easy to work with when I had the diet this way.

I thought we were only allowed to have things on the list. I don't want to mess with the surgery by not following the diet exactly. Was scrambled eggs on your lists of food allowed or did your doctor say it was ok?

Each doc is different. My two weeks were 3-4 Protein Drinks a day and a minimum of 64oz of clear liquid with no calories, no carbonation, and no caffeine.

I also am two weeks out and the liquid thing is hard the first couple of days.

I used to be a chef and I learned fast that I have no willpower around sabayon.

I am at the ond of 2 week Fluid diet and I was soooo hungry for the first week, I had boiled egg twice. You can at least have some normal food, so cherish that :) I was ready to kill for a plain Tomato with salt and pepper :) Now I recognize this was head hunger, you just crave chewing... I made it through 2 weeks and I'll be having my surgery on Monday. I wish you patience and don't think how many days you have left, think how many already have passed! Good luck!!

I'm drinking Body Fortress. I put in my milk, powder and then fill it up with ice and blend it with my Magic Bullet. Makes them more tolerable and they last a bit longer!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
