Banded 2/16 Appetite?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys wanted to check in earlier but connection was down. I had surgery on Friday Feb 16, 2007. It really went well but as I suspected the general sedation did me in I am now starting to not feel so sleepy. I am still having a little shoulder pain but that is it. I am so not hungry I do not know if its psychological or not but I am having a hard time getting the Protein Shakes down not because of nausea and vomiting but because my appetite is gone. I did call my dr and was told that it should come back(my appetite). I had to set a stop watch to remind me to eat well drink you know Protein shakes and Clear Liquids for 2 weeks post op. I was just wandering has anyone experience this before. I don't know how much weight loss yet because it was suggested by my dr not to weight until 1month post surgery. He said this time was for healing. But my husband was like honey your face is getting so small. I am a little concern because I know I am not getting in enough Proteins.< /p>

Hi nursedeeva, I was banded one day before you on the 15th. I too am having a difficult time getting my drinks in. I just don't feel like drinking any more. My Dr. has me on Optifast so I'm getting enough Protein, but I just do not feel like drinking them. Plus we are suppose to get a full 64oz of Water in besides. No way that is happening, but I am trying the best I can. I also am unsure if this is because I'm really not hungry, or if it's just from the stomach being swelled from all that monkeying around with it.

Just wanted you to know you're not the only one feeling this way. Keep in touch and we'll follow our journies together.

I'm scheduled to be banded in just over a week.

For now, I talk to my 5' 8" 125 lb sister (and business partner) about it for moral support constantly. She's really good to hear me out, though I know she has no idea where I'm coming from.

Anyhow, one of her theories is that part of the success in the surgery is the 'placebo affect'.

I don't know that I agree, but heck - whatever it takes to make this succesful, I don't care if it's as much psychological as physical. Though if the placebo affect worked, the diet pills should have been a wild success.

On a different note ... I'm ALWAYS thirsty. I love Water. I show off to my nephews by downing 32 ounces of Water in mere seconds (yes, young boys are easy to impress). I don't know how I'm going to manage a teaspoon or two of water at a time. I honestly think I'll miss the water more than the food.

Keep us updated!

Hi Nursedeeva and congrats on your banding! I was banded on 1/30/07 and I had and still have a hard time getting my fluids and protein shakes in. I have a shake for Breakfast and it holds me for at least 6 hours. I do sip on Water all day long. I am still not hungry though. I drink my shakes and eat cottage cheese because I know that I need the protein. I am still only taking in about 400-500 calories a day. I didn't weigh myself until I went to my 2 week post-op appt. My doctor said the same thing about the first 6 weeks being a time for healing. Best of luck to you! Gigi:)

Nursedeeva,

What you are feeling is totally normal. Enjoy it while it lasts. Sometime within the next week, your feeling of fullness will probably go away and you will be very hungry. This too is normal and if you read through the January thread, you will see that most banders seem to go through this. I was banded on January 15. For the first week, I was not hungry and had to push myself to get the Protein and Water in. It is a whole different story now and I can't wait for my first fill on March 6.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
