Recommended Posts

I am planning on having Roux-En-Y Gastric Bypass Surgery in Cancun, Mexico in October 2013. Has anyone had any gastric bypass surgery in Mexico?

I'm having mine in Tijuana in October but I've found that most do the sleeve over the rny when going down there however, I feel the rny is right for me so I'm going to go for it anyway.

Chaych, good luck to you. I am so excited. However, I changed from Cancun to Puerto Vallarto with Dr. Joya. Seems a better choice for me. Where are you traveling from and what doctor have you decided on? Please keep in touch because I am also having rny and would love to go through it with someone else.

I'm doing it at Mi hospital and coming from Utah, that's why I chose Tijuana. Flights to San Diego were by far the least expensive as well as the surgery itself. I have 2 co workers who used Dr. Elias Ortiz recently. One had the rny and one was sleeved they both had great things to say so I decided to use him as well. Puerta Vallarta or Cancun would be great! I wish I would've looked closer at those options earlier because it probably makes it feel like you're getting a little vacation out of the deal as well.

Chaych - I also heard good things about Dr. Ortiz. It is so far for me to San Diego. 6 hours. I also checked Puerto Vallarta and was really considering going there but it also is so far and I had to change planes twice. I worried about coming home after the surgery with such a big trip. So... I decided on Cancun and yes, I will have a little mini vacation to recover in. Oh, forgot to tell you. I changed to Cancun after I wrote this original post. Keep in touch.

I am really, really nervous but very excited at the same time. Do you have to do a 2 week pre op? I do. My surgery date is Nov. 8, 2013..

Yes, I started my 2 week preop on friday. So far not bad so I'm hoping I can keep it up. Well, I will keep it up, I just might get a little cranky in a few more days. Ha!

I live in Phoenix. So I'm gonna hit Cancun after some if this fat melts. It's really nice there.

So much for indecision. The airfare to cancun is very reasonable. Tempting. now I'm looking at my options in Cancun. anybody have a good doctor to recommend? What about dr. Sergio Verboone?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
