Recovery from band vs. bypass

Recommended Posts

I am getting closer to my revision date of 8/19! I am excited and nervous.....how much harder/longer was your recovery from bypass vs. the band? I think with my band I was back to work after about 4 days....I am guessing there will be a lot of muscle soreness at the site of the port removal....I was banded in 2005, so there will be a lot of scar tissue.....

I had to do my revision in stages because of scar tissue, inflammation, etc. I will say recovery from band removal was a piece of cake....except the stinking port site!!! That was a booger! Bothered me for weeks. I took off 2 days longer after my RNY then I did with my band. Pain was not bad with either but I was really tired much longer after the RNY...I also had a little crazy emotional drama/funk post RNY that was a first for me. Eating and drinking post-op were easier with the RNY. You'll be so glad you did this!!!!

The RNY recovery was hard for me. I was in a lot of pain. Took 6 weeks off work I swear I needed 8, BUT I don't regret a thing! ;)

My bypass recovery was longer, and more painful. I recovered from the band very quickly, a couple of days maybe? The bypass it was a full 2 weeks before I felt really good and a month before I wasn't easily exhausted. I was also banded in 2005 and revised to RNY in May 2013. Wish I never had the damn band! Loving the RNY. Best of luck to you.

My bypass was way harder. I had a J drain for four weeks after my bypass and it wasn't until that was out when I started feeling better. I took 8 weeks from work but could have gone back st six

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
