Restriction - finally!! :)

Recommended Posts

Hi ladies and gents :)

Haven't been around in a while cause, well .. I haven't been losing lol. And for some reason when I'm not losing I can't bring myself to login :/ I'm weird, I know.

Since being rebanded in November, I haven't felt any restriction. Yesterday I went back to the doctor. I knew I was nearing 4cc in the new AP small band, so was very nervous about it. I've heard from several people that finding restriction after being rebanded is difficult and thought, "gee, what if I've reached the limit and still don't have it?!? Am I destined to be stuck at 90kgs??"

So I talked w/ my doctor about my concerns. When I said, "I know I'm nearing capacity ..", she replied with, "No you're not." and kind of chuckled.

Seems the small ap band can hold upwards of 10cc. I had no idea, as my previous band held about 4cc. Phew! That's a lifesaver lol.

Even better, seems I now have a bit of restriction after yesterday's fill. YaYYY.

Hi Jess, Congrats on your new home. Eltham is gorgeous. Can I ask you a question? When you are first on mushies after being banded, and you have not yet had a fill, is it normal that you can eat more than one cup of food at a time?

If you ate one and a half cups at this time would it stretch your stomach, if you are eating mushies? I am a new bandster and stress about everything! I even forgot to sip Water on a hot day and I chugged it.I didn't feel sick or anything I just forgot to sip it. Any advice?

Hey Susannah,

That was definitely the norm for me (eating more than one cup), but from what I hear, everyone is different. I did ask the doctor about it at the time and both Mr. Crosthwaite and Dr. Korin seemed to think that was fine.

I stressed heaps too. I'm a Water chugger - always have been. Even now, I drink pretty fast for a bandster. The only time I feel it is if its a *really* cold drink or if its first thing in the morning. Dunno- maybe I'm a bad bandster lol.

Don't let it all get to you too much though. At the end of the day, if you're eating healthy and trying to follow the bandster rules as much as possible, you're doing great! Any major concerns, make sure to phone the doc. Another month and it'll all be second nature to you :(

Oh - and good luck w/ that first fill next week! Don't forget, you probably won't get restriction from that first one, so don't get frustrated - it will come!

Hi Jess, Thanks so much for the input, because you have been at this for a while now,you know more than me. It was strange but today I had the opposite happen. I had half a cup of mushies and I was full!:) Somedays I can eat more, and some days less. Is this normal?

I am going to drive you nuts with all the questions.:biggrin1:

I am going to see Mr Crosthwaite next wed.

LOL - absolutely normal. The band is such a fickle tool! Almost everyday for lunch I have a tin of tuna with a few Vitaweat and some sliced capsicum (just cause its easy to fix at work). Some days I scarf it down no worries, then other days I'll get a few bites in and be like o0o that's not working lol. When you switch to solids, you'll probably find that you'll be fuller quicker too, even though you chew your food to mush. Never made sense to me *shrugs*.

Hi

I need some help please. My weight is not moving and I think thats because I am not reducing my calorie intake or exercising enough, but I have a lapband and hoped it would extert greater control over my intake. The band does not seem to be influencing what I am eating in terms of quantity and I thought that I would feel impossibly full after only having a few mouthfuls - but I don't. I have lost about 6kgs but that was mostly when I was on the pre-op liquids.< /p>

I have had two fills so far and have found that I do not think I am actually experiencing "restriction". I can eat a normal serving plate of most things, but find that dry toast, chicken and broccoli make me need to be sick.I do not feel "hungry" which means that when I am eating I do not know when to stop - so unless I control my portions or just have a liquid- I feel that I could eat and eat and eat.

My doc says well it must be working if you don;t feel hungry- I think yes it is in the right position on my stomach but it is not tight enough to control my intake. How many fills does it take before you are really experiencing restriction?

Cleo

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
