Just got insurance approval!! Any advice???

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I just received insurance approval for the lapband. My surgery date is March 16, 2007 at Arcadia Methodist Hospital in Arcadia. Doctor is Dr. Troy LaMar (California Bariatric & General Surgery Associates) in Arcadia.

Does anyone have any advice or suggestions as to getting prepared for the surgery??

I must say I am a little nervous.

Looking forward to your responses.

You might want to do a search... but I believe someone posted a checklist they put together in preparation of surgery. It was very helpful to me. Congrats and good luck!

Congrats! That's awesome.

Go to the January and February bandster threads. All of them for that matter. If you have alot of time you can see what all of us went through and used and needed. Good Luck.

Congrads on your committment to yourself!! One problem that I had with my insurance- I have bluecross blueshield of GA- was that I got the precertification- then after the surgery found out 2 things- 1 that they wanted a preauthorization also- don't ask why- my doctors office was on top of it to fix it, otherwise the bill that I had before me was for 14K- yuk!- but the 2nd was that someone had assisted with my surgery- as far as the band adjustment- that person is not covered under my insurance and I have to pay them $1000- that I wasn't aware of- so just make sure you ask lots of questions from your docs office to insure that all bases are covered- don't worry you will do great!!!

Susan

Yes. But since I had done so much research already, I knew that the Lap Band was the best choice for me, it had less risks with it, and in the end, people must choose what they feel most comfortable with. Having said that, the same place had a nutritionist who bragged how she "invented" a diet to reduce liver size called "detox". (anyone mildly informed knows this diet of detoxing is common in gastric surgery and the chances of her "inventing" this diet (that can be found with any Google search) are between slim and none.

Soap box moment: I'm so sick of people telling the fat people what WILL WORK FOR YOU that I could barf if I hear it one more time. (note to self: turn television off at 3 AM. Reason: Infomercials)

It's so nice to know that I am not alone in making the right decision for me, not everyone else. I will not let anyone else discourage me. Anyone else out there with the same problem.:help:

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
